In a frustrating bit of Autechre news, i just found out that Nothing has put an import ban on the new Autechre album. No US distributers seem to be carrying the new album so i guess we'll have to wait until late summer for Nothing to release it domestically. It add insult to injury, Nothing will not be releasing a vinyl version of the album. Looks like we'll have to go out of the country to get the new Autechre album within a reasonable amount of time. I hate import bans... -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

My guess would be that Nothing did this to increase sales of their domestic release. So economic and political. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Before everyone gets all pissed at nothing/Interscope, think about it for a minute. Nothing/Interscope can't file anything in court to stop an import record from being sold here, so thier "import ban" has to be in full willing cooperation with warp, meaning they agree not to sell it to distributors who will ship it to the US in thier contract to license the album to nothing/Interscope. So before anyone makes any short-sighted complaints about nothing/Interscope, make sure you get equally pissed at your buddies Autechre and Warp, because they are just as guilty. Besides, I can't imagine some little "import ban" stopping a bunch of sweaty creepers from getting ahold of this album. It'll just make it that much more of a trophy piece. I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing you of such, I was making a pre-emptive strike against the imminent wave of well-intentioned but short-sighted attacks on nothing/Interscope and not Autechre themselves or Warp. After all, I was waken up this morning (albeit at almost noon) by such a phone call. -Daniel 9-5SuperSpy@kuci.org ============================================================================== Listen to "Space Disco for Fish Tacos", KUCI 88.9fm Wednesdays 8-10pm New Space Disco For Fish Tacos web site: http://www.kuci.org/~dbremmer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "We're not talking about music. What is the policy at Warp-Mart? Will they honor the ban and not ship any orders to the US? -/\= Hess M. Hodge ~/\ hess.hodge@colorado.edu (/\) <no homepage at this time>

I believe Warp-Mart will still ship orders for the new Autechre album despite the import ban. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Well said, also consider that we all want this music to be released domestically at a domestic price, but we do not want to wait and support the companies doing this. It must be frustrating for Nothing to invest the money bring a record out in the US, and find that a large number of it's potential customers already own the record. If Nothing/Interscope had anywhere near an effective marketing department, they would release the new album on the same day, or at the most one week after the UK release. There's not a chance in hell that most of the people on this list will wait a few months for a US release. I'm not saying that we'd be the only people to buy this release, but I'd hazard a guess that any Autechre 'fans' will be looking for this record as a UK import rather than waiting. I suppose we'll have to see an Autechre mix of a new Mine Inch Nails tune in order to create a market for them over here. (IMHO) :) Ian
