for those that might have missed this uber-rare event, SHAME ON YOU!!! pita put on an all-too-brief set with some gorgeous sweeping crunches, pops, and thumps; fennesz put together one of the most engaging sound collages i've heard perhaps ever - tons of gritty effects, pretty sample melodies, and cut-up start-stops that leave your head hanging on the next pulse. if these guys come to your hometown, see the show. i asked fennesz if he'd be coming through this way soon, and he said "no", so looks like dry times round here for a while. sigh. Ain't never a dry time in Chicago - if I only had the money/time to go to all the shows.... But anyway, I have to ask - how was the Pita/Fennesz/Jim O'Rourke collab? cya brian -------------------------------------------------------- "The most dementing of all modern sins: the inability to distinguish excellence from success." - David Hare

i'd say 25% success rate. it was a big 3-laptop improv jam that meandered more than it stepped. some fine moments, some ho-hummers. pita started throwing cds into the mix towards the end, which provided some comic relief, but i would have liked to see a little more premeditation. fennesz wins 4 falls to 2. and that was dry in the mego-nian sense... mj
