hi all, ok, so I know that - balil is ed handley - plaid are ed h. and andy turner, of course, and - xeper is ken downie. anyone know who's behind - close up over, - IAO, and - discordian popes? not that I want to get into the "who are the better black dog members" debate, their music rules and that's all that matters, but for those that are saying that ken is and was the only creative member (as much as I love his work) I strongly recommend checking the (mostly balil) material before he joined the group. the balil tracks i.e. on ART4CD will blow you away. then there's an album mbuki mvuki from 1991. anyone know anything about this? were any of its tracks released on later balck dog releases? cheers, --tom

One source of clues would be the Live Tape. There are several bits & pieces of classic Dog tracks on there. If there's one thing I know about Ken, it's that he would not have used the music if didn't write it. Over the next week I hope to go through track-by-track & identify these and cross-reference them. I'll post the results.

I didn't say Ken was the only creative member, I said he's the only one who is currently using his creativity. I love Ed's old tracks as much as anybody, it just seems to me that he has trouble getting the creative juices flowing outside of Black Dog Towers, unless he's working on a remix of someone else's material. What's wrong with Plaid's 'Not for Threes'? Personally, I rate it right up there alongside 'Spanners'. /\/)ark

Two of the tracks ("Anything" and "Yak") was released on "The Plaid EP" on Clear in 1995. The rest, except for Scoobs in Colombia which got a 12" release on GPR, remain unreleased. That's 6 tracks. Franz. --- WHEN DOGMA ENTERS THE BRAIN, ALL INTELLECTUAL ACTIVITY CEASES. - Robert Anton Wilson.

Digital Millennium. Pretty decent collection of stuff -- including Mark Broom, various Beaumont Hannant pseudonyms, Black Dog, etc. /\/)ark

Well, it has for me -- particularly Headspin, Rakimou, Ol and Milh. I guess it depends what sort of emotional response you're after. And sometimes, the emotion isn't necessarily built into the music but you can have it relate to emotional circumstances in your own life. /\/)ark
