It seems to me that BoC is garnering mucho love and respect around here these days, almost on the level of Ae a few years back...and Aphex Twin a few years before this. Does anyone else see it in this way? I'm curious. I think of "Music Has the Right to Children" and I just know I'm not ever selling this one. I love this album, so of course I'm going to praise it, but this strikes me even as a classic before its time. For some reason, I think of the KLF's "Chill Out" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side..." Does everyone else keep going back to this one like I do, cuz I get the feeling it's not just me. And if we're all going back to it, what is it that pulls us back in? Is there a mainstream developing, even here in idm, or is this greatness being recognized? ---brian -- Superman doesn't get lois lane... ---oh yeah, what does he get? he gets to be Superman.

Do any of you own a NAD 533 Turntable? If so, can you tell me if it's worth buying and does it entail swapping a rubber band over to switch between 33 and 45 rpm? I don't really want that... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, yeah, but I don't exactly see the hero worship I saw 3 years ago with RDJ (which I participated in).

I agree, but only to a limited point. This album seems as though it is not finished. Many tracks end right when they are getting interesting, right before they mature into a great piece of music. Music has the Right to be Fully Explored. And that's why almost everything else I've heard from them is incredible. The Peel session of Aquarius is a fully explored piece of music (imho of course). No and no. The only time I was into Pink Floyd was when I was buying quails of 'shrooms and going down to the beach for a 3 days drug bender....

The other thread curently going about finding new music and not living in the past applies to me here, but I'm still hunting out golden nuggests from the 1995 to 1998 range (e.g. Dark Side of the Moog 4, wow!). I hope BoC continues to grow and mature and never pulls an Aphex with the quality of their releases. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This album is definitely in my "regular rotation" (alongside DJ Shadow's "...Endtroducing") of albums I can't stop listening to, and I (along with all you other BOC heads) am eagerly awaiting their new material. I agree that this album is a classic, and I feel that it'll never sound old to me(well, I guess it "sounded" old the first time I listened to it, but I believe that was intentional). The reason I keep coming back...well, these guys have the power to evoke memories and emotion through their music like no other electronic artists I've ever heard (but if you guys know of another PLEASE let me know) save DJ Shadow. Hmmm...I bet I'll catch a lot of shit from that last statement...instead of flaming me for my ignorance of artists that are equally as powerful, just recommend them to me... I'm not sure what you mean by "mainstream", though. Jamie

Funny you bring this up. I've had the skam release since it came out, and at first I thought it was kind of fun music but nothing that great. Recently, though, I listened to it more and more following the "hidden voices" thread...(which I had never noticed AT ALL before). I made it my duty to listen to it on high-quality headphones so that I could hear these voices. Well, it turns out that what I once thought was relatively boring and repetetive music is more complicated, intense, and just plain beautiful than anything I had heard before (and not just because of the voices). But speaking of the voices, what is the "nasally" narrator saying at the beginning of "An Eagle in your MInd" (Starting at about 1:53) this is as much as I can tell: ........... 1:53 ?cruisline new york? is pleased to see you, before we voyage, over roads, and cliffs, all the way to los angeles, high above the sea, or someplace good 2:15 to great....places??????parabolas????? 2:38 the roads are evenly spaced only 500 meters apart, ?????pass by all of them have???? I LOVE YOU.... ......... can anyone help me out on this? I would like to add that the section from 3:18 to 3:35 with the airplane type sound is my favorite moment of the album. =) At 06:08 AM 3/17/2000 -0500, you wrote:

Well gee now, Kelley, let's see here - why wouldn't you listen to this more often.. Hmmmm, gosh, Could it be.... the fact it sounds NOTHING like Nuron or Stasis? Do you eschew the music andy-panda would give 'a nut & a foot' for because it sorely lacks in Nuron-like qualities? Does the omission of Statis-ian beats relegate this classic to collect dust at chez Hackett?? No no no, Music has the right to disappear suddenly at the peak leaving you distraught and aching and marvelling at such incredible transient beauty. Obviously we are talking about ROYGBIV here. Off the top of my head, here are a few I came up with -"based free" from BoC's Twoism. Although it about 5min long, it seems to end right when it's getting good. Still my favorite BoC tune. -Most of Bogdan Raczynski's tracks. I think he does it just to be annoying. -The last track from aphex's RDJ album. This track has pissed me off since the album came out. There are tons more, but these are just the ones that jumped out. ex. richard d james album....the songs are short, sweet, and the album has great continuity...i think its due to impatience, i heard him say in an interview that he gets so bored easily when listening to music....i think thats a great thing though...keeps things entertaining.... d

jesus christ... i haven't checked my email in a few days and am sorting through a digital avalanche here! came across a mention of a "hidden voices" thread and i can't believe i never noticed them! ANYWAY, now that we [were] on the subject, does anyone have any idea what that distorted voice says in "pete standing alone"????? it sounds like "walgreens," but i don't think they have those up there... zachary zim200@is7.nyu.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
