The SAW I sounds dull and shallow on CD ... I don't think the Record version of it will change anything. if i remember correctly that compilation was put together by friends of richard. tracks compiled from the many cassette recordings he gave his friends. so if the tracks were mastered from cassettes you can't expect great sound. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

that's no excuse! granted there are variations in source material, but underground resistance and the rest of the submerge crew mastered everything on cassette too, though any lack of sonic resolution on either's part is debatable. eric onnow: si-{cut}.db:behind you(sprawl/suburbs of hell)

I think the point is that Richard wasn't as serious back in the days when he was just monkeying around, creating weird sounds, building his own synths, and lucid dreaming until 4 in the afternoon. The tracks from that era sound far and away better than any samples, resampled, or filtered fart I've ever heard. I quite like the noise on SAW-I, actually. It's unintentional, and ads to the raw creativity that the music originated from in the first place. -- jr

Hmmm....I really love the track Amazon by UR, but it always sounded to me like something recorded on a cheap 4-track. -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

no pun intended. i just picked up the vinyl version of aphex twin's SAW 85-92, whatever the most recent pressing is. and i gotta say, the vinyl doesn't sound so hot. seems like a very shallow pressing (or so it seems to my thoroughly non-technical observations)--rather flat sound. no depth to it. not like i remember the cd sounding. anyone else notice this? i've wondered, too, if it's time to replace my styli (styluses?), but my other records seem to be sounding ok. befuddled, phil

Ohohohohoh this is something new to me. Bad sound ?!? Does it really exist ??! I don't know, you tell me..... If you love music, there should be no good or bad sound quality, .....who gives a fuck about it....it's just music that counts... Sound quality, hmmm....I don't even know what it means. C'mon people, It's fuckin' 1998. ! sorry for this mad reaction...but I'm really pissed off with this. I'm off to bed now, it's 00:16 here....but I think I'll go out of my room, on my terrace before, to give a few looks on the Adriatic Sea...this usually calms me down.... bye rob np: ryuichi sakamoto : movement 1 - grief

you, know what's funny about this? ever since more main stream publications started picking up on electronic music, this bullshit started being passed as truth... before that, everyone knew that ol'rich is just fucking with the press... and now they (the mainstream press) are responsible for a whole horde of deluded new converts championing aphex as the friggin' savior of music- imo, anyway. still, i have to say- that i prefer to read an aphex interview over anyone elses... more bang for your buck i guess... :-) peace. :spacecake: (readying his flame shield)

no way, it's always been repeated as truth for the three years i've been subscribing to idm. it's just that no one says anything when they realize they've been suckered. i'd be embarassed too, if i got pimped into selling someone's legend for them.
