because they cannot get clearance for the sample from yellow magic orchestra. when the 12 was originally released they took a change in that nobody [of relevance] would notice.

So Popcorn was by Yellow Magic Orchestra? I thought it was by Hot Butter and I thought they were European!?

nah, it is a cover version he sampled, but it was by an obscure australian synth covers band called 'elektrik cokernut'. go moog! <waves>

"Popcorn" was a Top Ten hit in 1972 for Hot Butter, which was actually just one guy, Stan Free, on Moog. It was written by Gershon Kingsley (of Perrey-Kingsley), but I'm not quite sure when... See also "Funky Popcorn" by James Brown. That creates an interesting line of connection: Aphex Twin - Hot Butter - Gershon Kingsley - Jean Jacques Perrey - Air .JohnBush.

WHat?!?!? Come on! You ask me they're all good. BTW, on the subject of Gershon Kingsley, there is a website called Frank's Viynl Museum which has some tasty reviews and clips from thift store classics and the like. Included is the Evil Kenivel record where AFX sampled the bit at the end of the AB4 cd from and an album by Gershon Kingsley called Music to Moog By that has a really funky moog cover of Nowhere Man. Check it out: http://www.searchlight.com/frank/vinyl/index.htm BTW, anyone know where I can get a copy of Moog! by Claude Denjean? gnz.
