What's the general consensus on DJ Dara's new one out on Sm:)e? I heard the first track, which sounded good, then into track 2 "Jade" with fem vox on (hmmm, not *really* my scene) but wasn't allowed to spend more time listening to stuff in the shop. Comments? I *

i listened to it a long time ago, there was one particularly nice track (slow w/nice melody and breakbeats)... the rest of it, thought, sucked, ill characterize it as that really crappy liquid sky (or "jungle sky") sound andy On Mon, 2 Mar 1998, Irene McC wrote:

Originally from Ireland, Dara now is one of the main figures of New York-based Drum'N'Bass. Together with DB from sm:)e, he owns Breakbeat Science in NY, a record shop that is even impressive when you're used to the highly specialised shops in the UK. His musical output has been quite weak so far, as far as I'm concerned. He did a great remix for Dog Eat Dog though, available on a one-sided 10", from Breakbeat Science only. Thaddi

Yeah I moved to NYC last summer, hoping to discover more of the NY dnb scene. What I discovered is sort of strange; the 'family/community' aspect of it is really strong, with shops like Breakbeat Science and Liquid Sky, and at events the seem to spin decent selections of jump-up styl;ed stuff as well as harder tech stuff, but the actuall music produced by the local talent is, well, crap, with the exception of We. I try to like it, but it is weak. I have the DJ Dara CD and would not recommend it at all. The same goes for any Liquid Sky stuff. mu .02 Nate On Tue, 3 Mar 1998, Thaddeus Herrmann wrote:
