I can't shed a lot of light except to say that I bought a recent-ish DJ CRYSTL single (after it became an oft played accompaniment - and somehow familiar and good - to driving around London on tour) called '183' which is a solid and infectious rap track. Only other stuff I know, though I don't know for 100% definite but I would think this is a British artist. A collaboration with Shyloc (from The Brotherhood [another British rap act]) on some of the mixes on the single supports this as well. That's the extent of the info I have on this - I'm sure other folk will have plenty more... If you liked the track on Textures then try the '183' single. The original is on the Trance Europe Express 4 compilation, should you wish to seek it out. The only other things I have is a 12" he did for Payday called Perpetual Motion which has rapping from a member of Headrush (or is it Headrush the person, I dunno) on it. There are four versions, 2 hip-hop, 2 drum and bass. All of it is pretty good, but not that similar to Crystalised (the track you mention). He's famous for a track called "Let It Roll" or something which was supposedly an early jungle anthem. He's also mates with English rappers The Brotherhood who take the piss out of him for liking drum and bass and not being 'down'. The last thing he did was a doublepack called 187 with "Smiley the Ghetto Child" or someone doing guest rapping. That was alright too. He's also remixed Dr Octagon's "Blue Flowers" to not that stunning effect, but the release is worth picking up for the Hype and Photek mixes which are pretty good. I think Crystl has an LP on the way, it's been in the pipeline for a while...

I love that DJ Crystl track - the MC, Smiley the Ghetto Child I believe is American but Crystl is definitely British (and has a background as a grafiti artist). There was another brilliant DJ Crystl track called "Perpetual Motion" which featured another American rapper which is brilliant and is of a similar calibre to "183". I also have an early Crystl single called "King of the Beats" from 1994 which has some great elements in it (though just proto-jungle music rather than music and rap). Action Records have "183" double CD in their sale for £1.50 so its not much of a risk to check it! Some of the first drum & bass I heard was from DJ Crystl on the _Counterforce_ compilation from '95. His two tracks "Let It Roll" and "Warpdrive (remix)" were some of the most brilliant (and saving) moments on that comp. -- lots of quick, cut-up and flanged beats with some nice sub-bass rolls (and no vocals to ruin it). Also on that comp. featured two tracks remixed by DJ Crystl. I've often wondered how his new stuff compares to this older stuff.
