Ah, a favourite topic. Indeed, the early As One releases are exactly
what one would call "classic" IDM. Starting with Reflections, a beautiful
record with depth and emotion galore. Then there's Celestial Soul, an
excursion into more jazz-influenced electronica (a few tracks on that were
released on the We No Longer Understand EP). Reflections On Reflections is
quite a collection of remixes of tracks from Reflections. At some point
there was an EP consisting of Mihara and Dance of the Uighurs, I guess it
was before the release of Reflections since both tracks are featured on
it (so my timeline is a bit off, but I'm typing this off the top of my
head in bed with a laptop :). All of the above were on New Electronica, I
guess they're quite tough to come by nowadays (aren't they all?).
Then there were the releases on Clear, one album released under two
names, first on vinyl as The Message On Herbie's Shirts and later as In
With Their Arps and Jazz and Things (with more tracks than on the original
vinyl version - the extra tracks were released as a separate EP on
vinyl, "Triumphant" as I recall), more of the jazz-electronica fusion of
Celestial Soul. I still consider Epic (from The Message.../In With...) to
be one of best ever DeGiorgio tracks, a slowly building 10-minute track of
truly epic proportions.
Continuing with the jazz thing, there was the album on Mo'Wax, Planetary
Folklore. With more jazz than electronica, I was a bit baffled at first
but gradually started to appreciate it, especially the track sung by Luca
Santucci (who also sings on Leila's album on RePHLeX). Really jazzy, not
everyone's cup of (insert favourite beverage here).
Then, there's the Art Of Prophecy on Shield (a French label), a bit of a
return into the earlier "classic" IDM sound, but with experimentation in
drum'n'bass, even. Quite a diverse package, with a remix EP with a remix
of Theme From Op-Art by Stasis.
Of course, besides the full-lengths there are numerous appearances on
various labels, his own (A.R.T. and Op-Art), New Electronica, B12,
Likemind, Otherworld and others. I haven't seen a comprehensive
discography, but I think I'm quite well off with having those that I've
mentioned here and lots of others. I can compile a partial discography out
of them unless someone (Lance? :) has a full one.
So, the timeline sucks but I'm too damn lazy to get up and check the
release years from the records.
A note off to AeOtaku - you're probably right about the matter of sort
of waiving the copyright issue on out-of-print releases, but I'm still a
bit uneasy about it. There's the huge work of actually digitising the
records, and since I don't like to trade MP3s or CDRs, what am I getting
out of the deal? A honorable mention and a reputation of a good guy? I'm
not that altruistic (yet :P).
