does anyone have the tracklistings for the black album as well as sonic weather machine? I think they may share some tracks, and I'm trying to figure out which one to buy. at least I know that both of them have "knifflige fragen" which, in itself is worth the price of a whole cd. thanks. craig egg88@aol.com

Air Liquide is nice. I don't know if they are avant-garde or pioneering, but _Increased Difficulty of Concetration_ and _Red_ are both nice. Very descriptive, eh? maybe we can chalk up their 'distinct new york style' to the fact that they're from germany, ja? ;) -J

"increased difficulty of concentration" is a classic to me. It represents alot of different aspects of electronic music and has a timelessness about it. I wouldn't call that release cliche techno at all! It's a fantastic album. As for the "red" album, well, I can't say I've gone out of my way to listen to my copy of it too much over the last year and a half since I got it. It's lacking the "fine art" that is present in their better work. I haven't heard too musah else by them, can anyone recommend any of their work that is comparabel to IDoC? B R E N D E N

Hiya, I'm guessing from all of these postings that people are interested in Air Liquide. I've met the gang once (nice bunch) and know their manager. If anyone would be interested in seeing an interview with them, post a reply here and I'll contact them. It might not happen for a while because I'm already back-logged with work but I can at least get this going at some point. The New York connection is Kahn, a Turkish born German who've I've heard referred to as 'walker's brother'. He records as Kahn, 4E and others I can't remember right now. Mainly distorted, downtempo stuff. There are a few other members of the 'Air Liquide' posse, including Frank Heiss, J. Burger, Strobocop and more. I've got (I think) just about all the releases this collective group have put out (around 70 records + 20 CD's?) and just about all of it is top notch. If you want to check out some interesting live stuff (on that NY tip!), look for The Liquid Sky Adventure Series. There's a few volumes out and they all feature many combinations of all these people playing live in Cologne. peace out, brock np: New Order - 'brotherhood'

What about Sonic Weather Machine. I thought this was a pleasant release from the Walker/Unit duo. btw, jammin unit's solo comes kinda close to a "new york style," or at least american style at the least. and for some bonus insight, i was driving down the interstate one day, and saw a "rig" (love that word) with the words "Air Liquide" on its side. i thought to myself, heh. (yep, that's the extent of my thought process...) it's all in the format... chrisTiaN -- " In the future people will think it strange that we only ever used the phone to talk to one another. SUPER. ok, anyone got a discography? I know someone must. are there really 90 discs between all of them? all i've got is red and the most recent Frank Heiss disc on Blue Planet. not true. they work(ed) out of cologne, mostly. some live sessions are from nyc, though (red album, especially), but I don't think that's new york sound - but that's my personal opinion. when I hear "new york sound", I think of house. I'd say they have a distinct cologne sound. cheers, --tom

I got Black by ordering it straight from smile through a mail order form that came with Red. I'd say black is about halve as good as Red but that's just my opinion. It's much more dark and ambient than Red is. (guess that's why it's called black) Even though it's still not as good as red, it's still worth buying I think. Erm...I must not have made myself clear. What I'm asking is this : Given that I have "Red" and "Abuse Your Illusions", am I missing anything by not having "Black" or "Live in N.Y."? The reason that I ask is that I notice live tracks on both of the two I have and suspect that "Abuse..." has some or all of "Black" on it because it has a lot of "Red" and some of "Increased Difficulty..." (which I also have). Also, what can I expect form "Blue", should I find it? Anybody? jeff -- dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." ICQ 904008
