Well, since my roommate and I have to share a stereo for the time being, we continually expose, and maybe even try to convert each other to our type of music (he's into classic rock & jazz, I'm into IDM and jazz, so at least some of it works out). Anyway, the other day, he threw in the Beastie Boys "The In Sound From Way Out" Have any of you heard this? It's smashing...a lot of wa-wa guitar, good drumming, and fun work on the keys. Sounds like it could have been a soundtrack for the 70's. Anyway, I retaliated w/Coldcut (Let Us Play), and he had a good response to it. Then we basically degenerated into jazz. --Matt (who honestly has no idea why he felt a need to post this)

I've like "the in sound from way out" but it builds up too much and lets ya down.. in each song, as soon as the groove builds to that critical point (where you think they'll just jam on & groove) the song ends. And there doesn't really seem to be much distinguishing the music from any other groovy/funk/wa wa guitar music. Genera-Funk at its finest, anyone? it is good, though --brett On Wed, 12 November 1997, at 10:44:28, ReZOn8oR@aol.com wrote:

"in sound" was just a compilation of all the beasties instrumentals from "check your head" and "ill communications" along with some of the instrumental b-sides, i think. so it was never really built as an album, and a lot of the reason that some of the songs seem to build and then drop might be because they were lead-ins to vocal tracks. i'm not 100% sure this is the case, just kinda guessing. never did buy "in sound", though. always wanted to, but never could drop $12 on stuff that i already had. alan!
