He's 22 - counts as a "kid" in my book. And how old are those coldcut guys? Talk about geezers! Anybody know what was up with that one record he spun with all the happy face stickers on the outer track? Does the needle track across those and cause the sound to drop out or was it just some goofy thing there just for looks? My only complaint about this tour is he played a LOT of the same records as the last time the Ninjas swung through town. It's not like he's some band that doesn't have new material or is playing to DAT and can't change his set up.

Your posts were much more IDM when you didn't have Bjork singing on them, you pathetic sell-out.

From what I understand about Kid Koala he doesn't use headphones during any of his sets [is this true?] and that he also cues the records up by just having a piece of tape on the starting groove and shebam drops it right into the part of the cut that he wants to scratch or whatever. My guess is that the happy face sticker was just a cute cuemarker of some sort. /peter

Yep, standard hip-hop battle DJ style. No time to find a beat by listening for it... Joe

When he played here for the Ninja Tune show, he did not have headphones on. He Beatmatched flawless. No idea how he pulled that one off. freshie Paranoia: The choice of a Tech Generation http://silly.com/~tang

22? Damn, he doesn't look a day over 17! And yeah, Kev and Pc look about my age (late 20's) and the coldcut guys gotta be at least half as old as steve hillage (who must be at least 90 by now). :-P

I was checking that one out too...I think I've seen that record around before and don't think they're stickers...It's in the pressing. This time around, he did a solo with two copies. Pretty wicked shit! peace out, brock. np: nothing, because I'm out the door...

Yes, you are correct that he doesn't use headphones and also does have quite a bit of tape on his records, but in the case of the happy face record, I'm pretty sure it's in the pressing. I was right on the left edge of the stage with Phil Evans, and noticed that record when he put it on...I thought the same thing, but then he slapped another copy of it on the other deck and the smileys didn't look like stickers to me, just a cool design in the pressing. Either way, I'm curious what that record was and am going to go look for it the weekend, since I'm sure I've seen it around somewhere. peace out, brock. np: v/a - avantgardism 2 (again)

Plus, you can do nifty things with tape like get a bass loop going by making the record skip over the tape and get back into the same groove. Then you can play bass by messing with the speed controls. The best part of Battle Sounds was the explanations of all the different styles of scratches and stuff. Plus Q-Bert explaining how he's "Just a big biter" of everybody else's tricks. Oh, and the guy who won competitions because he was able to play "Mary has a little Lamb" with the pitch control. He then graduated to Led Zep's Ironman—now that's *quality* djing ;-). Or the guy who won DMC by doing a handspin on the turntable... Forget it-just see the damn movie. Any info on availability to the general public?

1. What's your point? 2. Didn't Black Sabbath write Iron Man? Either way, this is pointless. ObIDM: That new Vampyros remix CD on Crippled Dick Hot Wax is currently only available on the german imprint. While, CDHW has just opened a US office, they've currently only just released Schoolgirl Report CD/LP, and have no plans at the moment to release the Vampyros Lesbos remix album. Of course I could be completely wrong.
