It's out now, and I love it. This one is a different direction from The Eyes of Stanley Pain, but a good one none the less. The experimentalism is turned down a notch on most of the songs, but there's still a wealth of weirdness mixed in the layers and textures. If you've heard Plateau, then this is similiar to Plateau only more lush and atmospheric, many of the songs are trance-like and laid back. Theres a couple ambient-ish songs with no beat, but most have the trademark thump thump thump. Then there's 3 or 4 bizarre, loud and gritty ones. Go get it ... 1. Toooly Hooof 4:35 2. Cunning 6:03 3. Moth 7:00 4. Tunnel 3:44 5. MZEO B 4:32 6. Streaked 4:31 7. Flight of Luminous Insects 6:10 8. Beauty in the Eyes 6:06 9. Seeeping Solus 6:21 10. Pleck 6:27 11. Bellshaw 4:41 12. Were 4:29 Download is cEvin Key, Philth and Anthony Valcic with guests Peggy Lee (cello on 8, 12), J. Vizvary (keys on 8), Tim Hill (electronics on 7), Russel Nash (cylon sequencer design on 7) markw@southwind.net

yep, you're right on the money there. this album is just plain brilliant. it's got a lot of that plateau/off and gone vibe to it (no surprise as philth is becoming more and more heavily involved with download). i actually like it more than the plateau stuff, which i think on the whole tended to work better as background music. this album has a lot more variety in the rhythms (the first track has an indescribably funky breakbeaty/electro feel to it), and the melodies have that soaring evolutionary quality that made the off and gone album so amazing. i'm also glad they dropped the skinny puppy wannabe vocals. i'm sure fans of harshness are pissed that mark spybey left the group but i vastly prefer the more solidly techno direction they're taking now. III is easily the most coherent and enjoyable download album to date. get it today! i also picked up the download "Charlie's Family" cd for cheap, haven't even had a chance to listen to it yet since III has been so relentlessly compelling. now if only i could find the new eat static album i could rest easy. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...

I was really surprised when I heard this album.. "Furnace" and "The Eyes.." were very well thought out and were full of fresh (at the time) ideas. This new release just sounds like a painfully rushed rehash of platEAU's "Music For Grassbars" to me, except putting a little more influence on textures and ambience and less on the beat (or "less house-y, more trance-y"). Oddly enough, I like house music a lot more than generic trance-ness, so I imagine I won't be buying another Download release for a while. Perhaps I'll buy whatever EP cEvin & the Subconscious Kru are doing to put the Autechre remix on.

i'm sorry but growled vocals and genesis p. orridge's pointless jabbering were hardly fresh ideas when those albums came out. they are much better off without them.

strange. i like "music for grass bars" but the songs on it are so minimal that it sounds more "rushed" (to my ears) than "III". -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...

For me, "music for grass bars" is good background music. Good for playing in the background while reading email, cleaning house, masturbating, etc ... you know, music that's on but you're not really paying full attention. "III" on the other hand is something you have to listen to, it sucks you in! markw@southwind.net

I totally agree with you it's alot like thier Plateau release 'music for grass bars' which was perfect Detroit techno style album this kind of reels it back into a more Download-ish style definitely cool-and atmospheric --it harkens back to the Biosphere remix of Attalal which is amazing live....... splua

'Charlies family' is ssoooooooooooo different(well kinda) it's alot more noisy and chaotic, more samples, almost like the 'sidewinder ep' but more experi-mental(not an easy listen at times)...I'm still trying to find Plateau's "dutch flowers ep"(which you think would be easy considering it was made and recorded here in Vancouver!)..oh well maybe I'll resort to mail-order.. splau np:download III"flight of the luminous insects"aaahhhhhhh.... PS: does anybody have the newest Sun Electric album? What does it sound like and is it worth $30????
