I saw an brand new ep in a local dance music shop by John Lydon .. said additional production by Leftfield , but the actual tracks have been done by John"Rotten"Lydon (of Sex Pistols/P.i.L fame which you knew of course) .. I read ages ago that he went into the studio to get some material done .. anyone heard the ep ? Tim.

I have the album, which has the Leftfield tracks and remixes by Moby, Leftfield, Chemical Bros and Danny Saber. As you might imagine, it's a pile of shit. About half of the 15 tracks are the more traditional PiL sounding stuff, the rest are bad Prodigy / Chem Bros. imitations (imitating shit, is that art?). I quite enjoy the PiL sounding half ... Also, John was caught dissing the Prodigy a few days ago on some radio show ... heh, heh. markw@southwind.net

It's really really terrible. Lydon usually comes up with good stuff but I guess this album proves that he needs a real backing band (like the old days w/ Jah Wobble) rather than a computer. I expected something like "Open Up" but nothing.

I dunno, most of the stuff sounds like really bad lyrics over casio keyboard presets. I don't recall anything PiL'ish' about this album, which is called "Pyscho's Path" for all those who don't know what we are talking about. I also think it's quite easy to catagorize the Chems and the Prodigy into one sound package but whether you like them or not they don't sound the same! Hell, why don't you throw Leftfield into the same catagorization of the Chems and the Prodigy, I guess all shit sounds the same to you!

I just caught every music mag in the industry dissing John and his ill-fated attempts at reviving something from his past (aka Sex Pistols, his old PiL sound). heheheh, but dissing the Prodigy can be pretty cool though, Goldie wore that shirt with Keith Thornhill's pic with a caption reading "Cunt Face". I wish Tricky would have beaten the shit out of Goldie had the chance though. So, so much for the critics of the Prodigy, isn't that what made them crap recently anyway? You know all that pressure and the big hoopla over "Electronica", kind of made Liam kink and he ended up releasing shite. Dunno really, don't care either, just rambling. Anyway I thought that since "Electronica" was the new trend I'd think there would be a copy of "Lunatic Harness" or other stuff that has been hard to come by would be more readily available. No! Just shitloads of Prodigy singles and Spawn soundtracks, blah! Feel free to let me ramble, Rusty

Well, I'll admit that it did have to grow on me. I think John did a pretty good job on the instrumentation though ...

Yes, if it smells like shit ... it's probably shit. The stuff on this album is boring generic techno crap. markw@southwind.net
