Well, I noticed that the data track is at the end, and not the beginning as it usually is. My linux box wouldn't even mount the darn thing, but it has worked on every win95 box I've tried (two). I haven't tried dos/win31 drivers, so that could very well be your problem. Speaking of bad cds, what's up with "cool cool water" by a small good thing.. won't play in a CD-ROM and my disc player plays it, but only after saying "error".. great disc as well, nice funky ambient jazz (just call it quad-rangle..) --brett On Fri, 15 August 1997, at 12:22:08, chris r graves wrote:

Mine is the same ... no video to be found anywhere. markw@southwind.net

Nope, you probably have an older CD-ROM which can't read it. It's a new format (called CD plus or something) which needs a multi-session CD-rom to get at the data. The upside is that you don't get the data appearing as an audio track, but the downside is that it is incompatible with older computer hardware. Any CD-ROM fitted to a Win95 PC in the last 2 years will probably work with it, so maybe its time to pop out and spend some $$ on a newer CD-ROM (and you'll probably benefit from a speed upgrade too). I think there's a bit about it on the Sleeve notes of both "Boot the system" and "Moer Beats & Pieces". later, J ^ np: The Shamen - MK2A (from Volume 15 technology alert) Steady J aka James Skilton steady-j@geocities.com Autechre & SKAM discogs @ http://subnet.virtual-pc.com/~sk393820

It's very possible that you have the domestic version of this. Only the import is has the video on it. bEn Synaptic Records (Rick and Ben) 608 S. Broadway Denver, CO 80209 (303) 722-9428 (phone) (303) 722-9540 (fax) synaptic@eazy.net www.eazy.net/synaptic-records/

Is the import the 'Made In Canada' copy? I always assumed that the copy that I picked up at Best Buy was a domestic version. I mean, god forbid they might ever restock any import like Current 93, you know =) The Coldcut, on the other hand, was restock several times (even though they just filed it under 'C' in the various artists section... Anyhow, point being that that version has the multmedia. We did have some trouble getting one cd-rom to read the multimedia tracks... it was an older cd-rom, I believe and simply didn't read them. It worked fine with my ucky Creative Labs x12 (the equivilent of say a Sound Design stereo...) Just wondering... thanks and excuse my extra comments, I've just woken and that darn coffee isn't done yet... That's weird, mine worked OK. If you're using Windows 95, you could try rebooting in DOS mode. I had to do this to get to the CDROM portion of EBN's Telecommunication Breakdown CD, though I don't know why. - Bobby http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~btribble

are you sure? it says right on it that track 8 is "Natural Rhythm (DNA-Rom audio vid)". i like the other guy's explanation that it is cdplus format that my old 4x cdrom drive can't recognize... it's the 'made in canada' version btw.. .... grav

Not true at all, the domestic version also has the video on it. I heard from a few people that they had trouble getting it to work. I thought they might have fucked up at our pressing plant, but I checked 20 copies from random bits of inventory and got the video to work on all of them. The video is the last track. If you look at the back of the CD you should see a visable line about 1 inch in from the edge that shows the seperation from the audio tracks to the CD+ part. If this line is not there then it's possible that it's not on the disc. Ninjas

Some CD-ROM drives can't read the data portion of CDs that combine data and red book audio. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists
