Can I register a 'hate' vote? It's not the principle of these messages but their frequency which annoys. They're fine for informing people of your music's existence, but people who are interested in your music will be checking back regularly anyway. Once a month or for every collection (CD or whatever) of tracks sounds like the right timescale to me. For your fans, Nate's newsletter idea is a goodie. Added value: Has anyone tried falling asleep to BOC? Some of the stuff later on in Music Has The Right... is incredibly restful. It ends up seeping into your dreams if you drop off quickly. Just a thought. Or SAWII - I haven't tried that yet but it might be interesting... One of my all time Favorites though has got to be Silence I+II. Perfect record for sleeping to. I agree about Substrata as well. I found it through a recommendation from the ambient list. Definitely safe to sleep to as well.... shimone Visions Of Bubba wrote:

i personally love the "dl my new mp3s!" messages. i don't think one can EVER have enough tracks on their hard drive called "ydarilc" or "copson2a.ato" or "estha$x" or "/.///~" etc, etc, etc. -rk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

SAWII is great to fall asleep to, and even better is "Flowerhead" by Datacide, or anything by Oval (particularly "Systemisch"). BOC's beats are a bit heavy for me to sleep to... my ears would want to stay up! zachary zim200@is7.nyu.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

In a similar vein, Microstoria works well. They even have track titles that designate specifically this purpose... i agree here 100%. i still haven't read any good reasons why we (the listeners and the artists) should NOT post free music downloads, but instead we should try and figure out how to turn a mailing list into a 5th grade debate club.... by the way, i've read complaints about mp3.com artists posting from mp3.com artists themselves...(?) some of you don't use it as your subject title, but you leave the links to yr site down below yr name. i think that's a superb way of doing it. let me ask... if we (the artists) leave a link below our name after every post, regardless of the subject matter, does it qualify with the rest of the list? if every artist had the freedom to post whenever they felt like it WITHOUT getting shit from the members of the list that find it annoying or offensive or whatever the dissatisfaction may be, and we (the artists) put in the subject line "dl my new mp3s" so that the annoyed may delete it without a second glance, would there be a problem then?? joseph joe

joe (and the others in the peanut gallery), You need to learn a bit about netiquette and mailing list conduct. This has nothing to do with 'mp3.com artists'. This has everything to do with people using a mailing list as their own 'personal' vehicle to fame and fortune. It applies just as much to the people who CONTINUALLY post 'for sale' and 'auction' announcements. Especially 'updates'. You can all go eat shit and die somewhere else. In case anyone doesn't understand what I mean by 'fame and fortune', I'm talking about using a public service to suit your own ends, whatever they may be. While there isn't anything inherently wrong with this idea at a low level, when the frequency of these 'type' of posts increase, you WILL experience people telling you "it's not cool". It's called BSP and the word 'Blatant' isn't in there as a joke. I'm really sick of trying get my point across about things that were never a problem in the past but now are, IMHO. All I can chock it up to is insensitivity/inexperience/immaturity on the part of the posters who are the worst offenders here. If I though it was just straight up brashness, I wouldn't be nearly as nice as I've been. I guess it's just time to start dumping people into the killfile, which is something I've avoided doing in all the years I've been on this list. My problem: solved. Your problem: not solved. Have a nice day boys and girls, brock. ------------------------- joseph fitzpatrick wrote:

While I don't want to adopt Brock's caustic tone, I agree with this paragraph completely. When I was a naive indie rocker, alt.music.independent served pretty much the same function as this list. Gradually though, a third, and then two thirds, of the posts became solicitations to "come see my band play at our friend's party if you're in Small College Town." Eventually, the group became useless. And I realize I've used the list for my own promotions before, but I hope they've been infrequent enough to be tolerable. In other news... Can anyone tell me anything about this BLAU 01 CD I've got? It's blue (duh), comes in nifty mechanical packaging, looks to be limited to 500. It seems to be by two artists: Stromlinie and Minus 13. The label's out of Weimar, which shows, I guess, that the Neue Bundeslaender are quite up to speed. It's a mixture, pretty much alternating track by track, of dark ambient-ish stuff, and ambient-ish dark stuff with electro influences. Anyone know how the tracks break down by artist, or anything about the label? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
