wasn't there a CLEAR boycott going on because of the way they scam the buying public by releasing 4 limited edition 12"s which cost like 10 bucks each, only to then release the CD of the same music for like 18 bucks?!?! maybe it was in a dream or something?!?!

As far as I can tell, this continually happens: autechre trirep++, photek hidden camera/ni ten ichi ryu, and countless others to be sure. It may be more extreme in the case of clear, but it appears to be standard practice. It annoys me as well. --brett On Sat, 9 August 1997, at 12:51:39, PUCKERED1@aol.com wrote:

Most irritating (although not exactly IDM) example: The band is Main, the record label is Beggars Banquet. Six CD EPs, about $12 CDN each. That's $72. A few months later, a double CD with all six EPs, $30. Joy. Oh sure, the EPs are collectors items and have a neato box and booklet and big fucking deal, I'm still out $42. Needless to say, I will not purchase another Main release. Jon

This is sort of a strange thread. First, we agonize over the lack of vinyl-to-cd crossovers from our favorite labels, and now we're condemning Clear for making limited editon 12"s available on cd? I think with the Metamatic + As One pressings on CD, Clear is doing the dance music world a giant favor! If breakbeat science and distorted noisyness are beginning to wear thin on you - definitely persue the three recent Clear albums on CD! Techno and it's related subgenres have become way too dark + dreary! Seems like all the funk that is left is either found on Clear, Planet E, or Op-Art. Clear's got some wicked stuff coming up; I can't give anything away, but the second half of '97 will prove to be a stormer for Clear! In the meantime, pick up the last two As One discs, the Gerd album on ULP, the Maas LP on Soma, the Fink 12" on ntone, or the Paul W. Teebrooke LP on OpArt for some real funky shit! g. np : pHrunt/pHreacher EP [isophlux] shad - where is this maniacal preacher from? sounds like the man who taught me sunday school!
