I thought I might just step in and say a few postive things about this work. First of all I would agree it is different than his first ep. And for that I am thankful. I loved his first ep but I don't want to listen to an artist that is putting out the same old same old each time. Just because the formula works doesn't mean you should stick with it. His other works on mask2 and vvmt0002 are showing this same growth. This isn't to say that he is totally different. For me the brilliance and symphonic nature is still there. 1. card hore: messed up beats, nice samples and use of the human voice and it's totally out there. A shock to the system really. Made me smile. Not the jega I expected but I appreciated none the less. Made me think of Mu-ziq. 2. oak hanger: cheesy little tune <but in a good way>. Catchy melody, seems like it going somewhere. Reminded me of a few people who have done similar type stuff and not pulled it off. Even remotely happy. 3. nausicaa: dark sinister and full of tension. Bring a child's voice in and for some uknown reason it gets darker. Nice. Beats are not overdone and kept my attention. 4. Steel drum: another sinister track. Nicely textured and layered. Odd noises here and there. Frightful at times. 5. star: dark yet again. The voice <if thats what it can be called> reminded me of the voice of an ancient mummy that is pissed off about this or that in one of those horror films from the 40's. The music is quiet with a symphonic element to it. The beats here are not as complex as the rest but it works. 6. houdini: Thought X-files here. Another symphonic track with movement. Sad and dark. Something buried within. Nice flow. Almost like the kind of song that would be played while something hidden and dreadful is being shown to you. All in all I liked this ep quite a bit. One thing I like about Jega is that he has a symphonic element <in style not necessarily sound> about him and this ep definitely makes use of it. Your mileage may vary.... n.p.: amon tobin - bricolage
