+On the newly issued Miles Davis tip:
Be sure if you are new to the previously mentioned Miles releases
that you *should* spend the extra dough to pick up the fancy special
issues that *do* cost a few dollars more than your average CD. There is an
extensive liner notes insert that is quite rewarding. I remember a friend
and I talking
years ago about how incredulous it was that this era of Miles was left
untouched
by Sony America. It was interesting that this era : the Miles
funk/noise/insanity
era, was only available in Japan until now. What was Sony thinking?
Could'nt they see
that the Miles completists would snatch this stuff up? Could it have
*realy* costed (costed ?
check my grammar ) *that* much to take the chance on these re-issues.
Though obviously
this era in MD career is certainly the most esoteric and non mainstream, I
can't imagine
why it took so *damn* long for these to come out.
The remastering is very well done. Also of note, you can find these on vinyl.
Word is ( for the penny pinchers out there ) that
these will come out cheaper, in conventional packaging. Also, for the
trainspotters, the double LP
"Get up with it" has a massive sample from the Mo Wax catalog, artists and
song not mentioned.
And for those questioning the relevance to IDM...If you want to go on with
the "what is funk"
and "who are the funkiest techno artists" thread, PLEASE check these
releases out. It ain't
Slave, it ain't The Meters, it ain't Willie Hutch, but lord is it funky.
+On the Photek remixing Reflective back catalog:
Someone mentioned that Rupert ( Photek ) was given the back catalog of
Reflective to
remix and rework. Without mentioning names, I can say that a *very very*
close source
has informed me that this project was an idea that has been "back
burnered". It simply
never progressed to fruition. What a killer idea, though.
p.s. to IDMers: faggot? C'mon now...
