Been really busy with life, work and the label. But have still managed to buy music. Here are some quick reviews of what is on rotation around here: Stalaktiten ooh mirjam : angestmaskin (phthalo. 16) CD (I think that is the title) I tried listenining to this at the store and for the life of me could not figure out what was going on. So I bought it, fully realizing it was something that had to be listened to, not browsed through (plus the store has a nifty 10 day return policy). Imaging sinister mood music that is created by digital glitches and synthesis and you will know what the first part of this CD sounds like. More noise than music perhaps; but somewhere along the way it gains cohesion and becomes music again. Beats form and what appears to be atmospherics come and go. this is not to say it isn't still difficult. The sounds and structures are odd. Experimental music with a very slight nod to snd and the mego camp (and amusik if amusic went abstract). Really hard to describe (especially the electro and hip hop influenced tracks). But if your looking for something different then get this. I like it. Great interesting work to get lost in. silk saw vs jardind usure - electric musical chairs (sub rosa) CD I am familliar with silk saw's work on the ant-zen label. This is not that work. Very sparse, ambient, disturbing noisy at times. Low bass, odd noises and the occasional assault of percussion that shounds more like washing machines than anything else. Basically this is an ambient CD. If you like odd then check this out as well. Persona - uptight (simulated) CD now this is fun. well crafted beats, samples and breaks. Chaotic use of drum loops (specificly jungle type loops). But there is a cohesion. It never sounds like it is going to fall apart. Everything is in place and belongs there. Very original and like I said fun. And it is well recorded to boot. Best described as wack drum and bass with a pop appeal. A must have if your into this type of music. -daniel: Head Monkey: Mad Monkey Records: http://www.madmonkey.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi..first post to this list...

Don't know if I'm too late to add to this? What's rocking my boat (some of these I know you lot will have gone through as classics but I'm catching up): Black Dog : Spanners (first heard them on those old Trans Europe Express comps, sadly never checked it out til now) Warp Remixes 10+3 (good if a little overlong) Pavement 'Slanted and Enchanted' Plaid : Rest Proof Clockwork (esp the secret track) and 333 Flaming Lips Blech Warp Mix Ubin : Coco Yoyo and Mongrel (http://ubin.cjb.net) Spiritual Technologies : all : Luminator : Epoch Aveugle and all at mp3.com (www.mp3.com/luminator/) The last 3 are on my webring, modulator...NOT a plug excuse, just I really like them, and I urge for you to check em out even though the last one probably isn't IDM and is more like Mogwai or Godspeed. (But if you lot can't decide what IDM is, what chance have I, a newcomer to the list of defining to it? ;-P ) Although the majority is in the scope of this list, several aren't: and that's because I don't do labels or listen to one type of music...I did think the Jim O'Rourke discussion was symptomatic of what I see so many times on other musical and non-musical lists, people chalk out a spot in cyberspace then spend all the time defending it. But anyway, someone who can cover Ivor Cutler on a major release gets my vote :-) Also great to see the ep of a friend of mine (headshell aka mark hadley) make the top ten of someone else...it's good, go buy it from toshoklabs. hugs tbc (listening to Jim O'Rourke AND Black Dog by the way. No really. :-) *this is a placcybag corporation product : don't try this at home* Tim Baker : ringmaster of modulator experimental webring * modulator radio * modul-8 mailing list * : http://welcome.to/modulator/ : http://listen.to/modulator/ : http://www.onelist.com/group/modul-8 Cosmopolitan Kitten's Thought For The Day : '?: If a cow laughed, would milk come out her nose?' --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This is what keeps showing up in my cd-player a lot (again) lately: Seefeel - Succour Freeform - Elastic Speakers Freeform - Heterarchy Arovane - Atol Scrap Various (DUB records) - Nummer Een Jochem Paap - VRS MBNT PCS 1 + 2 James Bernard - Atmospherics µ-ziq - Royal astronomy (well, "goodbye, goodbye" anyway) Squarepusher - Selection 16 And those AFX remixes of Seefeel and Saint Etienne. so, except for µ-ziq and Squarepusher, I'm leaning heavily to the ambient side if my music collection lately...how did that happen? ;-/ Teccie. http://www.mp3.com/ceTeR --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

how is this coil release? any comparisons to past work from them? i saw this yesterday but wasn't certain whether it was worth the hefty price. best matt ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
