Now, I don't know how many people know this, but it was news to me. I was having a casual discussion with my Mum and I had just bought a copy of the Black Dog's "Parallel" and she pointed out that the phrase "The Black Dog" is an archaic expression for depression. The OED confirms this, and I just thought it worth noting in case anyone else is living in ignorance as I was. J ^ lost in music

For those who are interested in the European folk mythology, black dog has been always considered a messenger of devil or an omen of devil's being around. Don't know about black dog's meaning in other cultures' mythologies though. Maybe those who are into the Egyptian mythology could tell more, knowing BDP's interest in that.

Competely agree here. I love Spanners, but Bytes is (imo) much better (though, for some reason, I play Spanners a whole lot more). This is one that I want on vinyl and cd... I might have a few RA clips up in the BD discography @ my BD page... not sure... if not, maybe I'll put a few tiny ones up. If you run across Music For Adverts, this is the cake... I absolutely can't hear that enough (though still stand by my first comments concerning how the tunes just end... it really gets to me... some of the songs could just go on and never end and that'd be fine with me...) I guess I should shut up ,thinking of all the mess I created after that Björk review, anyway... Can't shut up when people are talking about my favorite album. :) If you're more into the wicked 5/4 whatever offbeatmelodies I'd say go for Spanners and MFA. Bytes is more traditional, I was very disappointed after having listened to Spanners and MFA (yeah, ok, so I haven't been around as long as some of ya). Spanners is just utter brilliance and together with SAW8592 my favorite album of the whole genre. It's so very varied but still everything is linked together in a magic way. The same goes for MFA, althouh MFA is VERY experimental and I can't really think of a single minute where it DOESN'T sounds like the towerstudio is all foggy of pot. I'm still more fond of Spanners. Maybe because that was the first Black Dog release I heard and I was completely overwhelmed. Better than your average whatever. Temple Of Transparent Balls ain't to bad either... to some of you this may seem an obvious answer to a un-needed question but i recently had the fortune of finding Black Dog PRoductions - Bytes - at a Best Buy and had to snap it up immediately seeing as i am a recent fan of Plaid. but what is the story with this release (the black dog one)? i notice the first track is "Object Orient - Plaid" is this them performing as plaid or what? and the rest of the tracks, performed by members of black dog under pseudonyms or just creative track titles? thanks for any info. - brian
