Picked up the Drexciya double CD on the strength of the EP on Warp. What a big mistake (listen before you buy! listen before you buy!). This is a simplistic, self-indulgent journey through the clichés of techno. Reminds me of some of the old acid house comps I bought (ie: Jack the Tab on Wax Trax) that were chock full of 3 minute forays into mediocrity. This is musical shovelware. The good stuff (and there is some) on this double CD could've fit on an EP. I guess they wanted to go out with a bang, anticipating their breakup..

you can listen to some drexicya at my real audio site. http://sticky.bud.com/

simplistic, maybe, in that the tracks are stripped down, with the bare number of elements required to convey their message. self-indulgent... i have no idea what that means. if anything, it's spare, ascetic music.

considering the glacial quality of drexciya's release schedule, i find that statement laughable. drexciya create their own sound and their own world. it's unique and exciting and full of water and electronics. normally i wouldn't advise mixing those two but in this case, jump on in, the water's fine. just watch out for the sea snakes! -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...

it's amazing how much two peoples' opinions can very (listen before you slag it off based on an email!! listen before you slag it off based on an email!!). at over 30 tracks they can't all be gems, and i don't think they're intended to be. you have to remember the vintage of SVE03 and the early UR stuff. this stuff is stripped back for a reason, for smooth laminar pHlow accross choppy aquatic surfaces. if it's self-indulgent,them sure are some damn unique cliches.... hey peeeeeece, we're all entitled to our own opinions, i just hope your bed room is far away from the lardossian coastline........ bang bang dig chi chi AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!
