i have mixed feelings about this....on one hand i don't think the prodigy and chem bros are creating some of the better techno...i think most people on this list are aware of more intelligent music than this out there....but what about their sales? the prodigy's new album is the fastest selling cd ever....even faster than michael jackson's thriller....i think it's great that more and more people are catching on.....the prodigy and chem bros. might not be very deep but at least they are creating techno for public consumption....not everyone is ready for the obscure....the one problem, those people who appreciate good intelligent music but are only exposed to the prodigy and chem bros. may assume that techno is annoying and empty b/c they haven't been exposed to the really interesting stuff any comments??? dan n.p.: perfume tree "dust"

I can't believe evry one is so quick to associate The Prodigy and The Chems. The Prodigy may have stepped outside of IDM, but that should only make the elitists hate them (or I guess most of this group). If you ignore the "(tastes like) Rap Foo Yung" and the "Sweet & Sour (looks like) Punk" tracks, you're left with some killer beats. I guess Liam's gone to K(iller)DM. I tell what would piss me off is if I found out he was using Warez to create his music ;) As for the chems, dog at will. When it sounds like a beat has been drawn out in Piano Roll view, it probably has. They lack a sense of feel. It's like robotic funk with no volume control. Doesn't quite sound right to me. I have been playing the drums (marching, concert, and trap set) non-professionally for about 11 years and tweaking samples and knobs (also non-professionally) for the last three. This makes me aware of rhythm, feel, and technique more than anything. It lets me here sloppiness in the showing off of some Drill 'n Bass. So take this OPPINION for what it's worth and flame at will because I don't mind using the delete key and I know many services that would gladly take e-mail addresses. _ / \ /\ /__/ \ / \ \ / \AVIS \\\\ ravis1@mindspring.com http://www.mindspring.com/~ravis1/

we all don't agree that the chemical brothers and the prodigy suck - that's why people post - and the idm list is an open forum to discuss anything remotely to do with "idm" i believe - i don't for one - i think they are of huge importance but i don't think they are the be all and end all - there is plenty of better music and more interesting and "deep" music - but, these are 2 brilliant party albums and i'm glad they're ripping it up in the states - it's about time someone did - cheers iain

could you back this up, please? prodigy sold maybe 200,000 in the u.s. out of the gate -- admirable, but not record-shattering; _wu-tang forever_, for instance, debuted at over 600,000 its first week last month. or are you talking worldwide figures, and if so, what's yr source that it's the fastest selling cd ever? jeff
