Did anyone read Michiko Kakutani's NYTimes Magazine article? Grrrrrrr. I'd
like to post it, but the Times Magazine isn't online. Anyway, it's an
inflammatory, ignorant article about how robotic techno is, claiming that the
goal of the music is to turn people into machines. I'm writing an angry
response, although my chances of being printed are slim to none. Remember,
this is the same Times that wrote an article about the ESPN X-Games, saying
something like "They were playing music by bands like Sublime and Ska."
Kakutani has clearly never listened to the music she's writing about-she
uses Orbital as an example of how robotic techno is, as well as the Chem
Bros, who manage to humanize the music they make, if nothing else. Read it
and get angry.
BTW, has anyone seen Lollapalooza yet? How are Orbital and Tricky? How is
the crowd (do crazed Tool fans mosh during Orbital?)?
