Ollie Olsen, who is most of Third Eye, among other things, was
definitely a punk, and would gladly admit it- he organised the
soundtrack to "Dogs in Space", a movie about the early punk scene in
Melbourne, that he was a part of, in various groups such as Whirlywind
and later the Orchestra of Skin and Bone. He also was involved with
early Boys Next Door (Nick Cave's first band), as engineer or something
I think. He's been quoted as saying that he considers Techno (or
whatever) to be the modern equivalent of punk, with its DIY capabilities
and cutting-edge-ness.
np: Jesus Jones - "Doubt". Forgot how good it is.
Next: Yo La Tengo - "Autumn Sweater". I personally thing the remixes are
great. Tortoise one is very minimalist but very nice, mu-ziq is
fantastic - reminds me of the mu-ziq vs the Auteurs CD. Kevin Shields
one has a very repetitive beat, which gets tiresome, but the song grows
in intensity nicely after the vocal finishes.
