hello ken, now i've never been one to partake in the gossip end of this list, but your anti-afx-isms are getting very silly, and now you're insulting other people over it - there is obviously some sort of twisted motivation behind it all - i can understand being repulsed by bland, unemotional music... personally i have trouble believing that anyone who makes/listens to elctronic music passionately can be unaffected by rdj johan said:

i've never needed to... rdj bashing is becoming very trendy here indeed, and i've never been one for trends ken: ---grin, or brainwash yourself again? ---of course, its all about free choice, and if you choose ---to listen to RDJ, good for you. what i would say is that ---your missing out on a lot of good 'other' music by being ---so blinkered in your attitudes. check out some of the ---'other' bands mentioned on this list, they're not all ---tossers. how absurd have you brainwashed yourself into believing that rdj is merely techno for the uninitiated? shall i show you my current listenning credentials, or can you trust me when i tell you that i'm "well-versed" in electronic music, past and present... and still, the music of rdj has had a stronger musical and emotional impact on me than that of any other artist rdj may not be yer cup of tea ken, but to try to brush off rdj like he's some kind of mediocre talent for mediocre listeners is ridiculous if your feelings about his music are so sincere, put some words to your defence, rather than a series of clever little asides (eg.---some of the emotive (gag) sounds as mr james---) if you're just sick of him, or have problems with his personality, career, etc.... try to express it without all the unneccessary slagging if i were to hold the personalities against the music, i'd have a whole slew of black dog records to get rid of right now that's not even true, i appreciate your personality on this list but you've just been going too far (without any intelligent defence) with the anti-rdj bit solvent goodbye

funny, my experience is that everyone i've met who makes music really dislikes him. np: meat beat manifesto - dog star man ep -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications How the drunk and the maimed both are dragged forward out of the arena like a boneless Christ, one man under each arm, feet dragging, eyes on the aether. Not true. Or more precisely, I know many electronic musicians that are fans of his tracks stuff. And the couple of people I know who've had the chance to hang out with him say he's a nice guy as well. And we do make music, and we do know what's involved. Not only that, my mom (who is a composer, arranger, and record producer 65 years old) likes a lot of aphex twin stuff. I don't expect you to necessarily like aphex twin; nor do I expect Ken Downie to like him. To each his own. But the argument you make that "no musicians like him" is specious and incorrect; it seeks to claim authority based on anecdotal hearsay. I think among musicians there is definitely some jealousy at work here -- "he's making the big bucks and I still have to work for a living." Forget the silly things he says in interviews, ignore the hype, and listen to the music without prejudice. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Kent Williams kent@inav.net -- http://soli.inav.net/~kent

Funny how any thread can evolve into an RDJ political debate. Travis L. Combel ravis1@mindspring.com Desk: (504) 371-3065 Fax: (504) 371-3160 Ravis1 e-mailing from work.
