"Addicted To Noise staff writer Gil Kaufman reports: In yet another effort to get the kids up to speed on this whole wacky techno thing, Caroline Records will release Amp on May 6. The 13-track CD is meant to work as a companion piece to the new MTV show of the same name which mixes cutting-edge video footage and Japanese cartoons with the sound of electronica. All the tracks are previously released and come from bands that have been played on the show or whose music "is in the spirit of the show" according to a source at the label. The album, touted as the "definitive collection of today's biggest electronica artists," will sound like this: Chemical Brothers "Block Rockin' Beats", Fluke "Atom Bomb", Underworld "Pearl's Girl", The Future Sound of London "We Have Explosive", Photek "Ni Ten Ichi Ryu", Aphex Twin "Girl Boy", Orbital "The Box", Tranquility Bass "We All Want to Be Free", Goldie "Inner City Life", Prodigy "Voodoo People", Josh Wink "Are You There?", The Crystal Method "Busy Child" and Atari Teenage Riot "Sick to Death." Like the Plastic compilation we told you about a few weeks ago, this compilation is meant to act as a Cliff's Notes to the Electronica scene, the next alternative, blah, blah, blah. "It's cool for someone who's just getting into this and doesn't know much about the bands and doesn't want to buy a whole album by Photek or the Prodigy." " this speaks for itself. gonzi.

I don't want to buy a whole album from Photek or Prodigy either! ;) But seriously, this text seems like the end of my shallow world. I thought I was cool because I chose to be an IDM fan while all my freinds were into grunge and that Green-Day neo-DC hardcore stuff. Well, I was right I guess, and they were wrong, but it is now time to move on. Oh well. it's been nice knowing all you IDM people. For sale: Every fucking IDM record I own. Gotta get some money to invest in whatever's next. The Mississipi River Delta Blues resurgent? Salsa from Japan? Blue-eyed soul? Cajun french music? Anything but *Yuk* electronica! -CF
