In this case, it's my view too! Well said! Having listened to ambient music for many years prior to getting into what is arguably called "idm" I was at first put off by a lot of the initial techno offerings. I thought at first that a lot of it was mindless, unimaginitive, and boring. A couple of years later I began to take a real interest in some of the things people were doing with the technology in the encompassing umbrella of "dance" music, and it was because people were finally starting to really control the machines they used to make the music in their heads, rather than let the technology dictate the music to the creator. To those that make electronica (I do), you know how easy it is to get lazy w/ this stuff, slap together a few repeating bars and just let it go, even though the tools are there to create virtually anything you can dream up. Now we have a full fledged musical renaissance, teeming w/ the creativity of hundreds of new artists. I can't begin to count all the absolutely excellent music I've heard in just the last three years. This is the music I've been waiting all my life for people to make, and now it's happening. Sure, there's still plenty of shite, but there's that much more great stuff to listen to. It's a great time to be listening to music, folks. my .02 James

Well, I think that dance music (and it does include Techno) sometimes sound dumb and that like you I feel I want more than the usual club/Disco stuff that we now see more and more, in a way, techno did more to dance music than just create a new style in dance music and a new lifestyle/fashion, Techno was something new and good, but then as you say, we want more, IDM came in officially with warp's AI series and we had some kind of new music that was called IDM, Intelligent Dance Music, t'was somekind of dance music on which we could not really dance to it, I remember, I was in a music store and they were playing Orbital's snivi. and a lot of people were toe-tapping, they had some beat pump into them and must people I saw did not really bought or look like techno/dance-head. So what is dance music now, does it have to be simple and four-four beat, it can be much than that, see what's coming out today... But my point is the more I listen to techno and IDM and Ambient, I think that IDM is starting to be less "dancable" that it was before, and becoming more experimental in it's sounds, beats and feeling. And I add, that even good old dance/techno can be great fun to dance to and listen to at everytime and everywhere. So that's me. Max.

Yeah you can say all this, but have you ever heard 'The Dance' by Derrick May (rhythim is rhythim) out in a club? If you analysed it it would seem it has a 'pretty standard beat' (albeit ten years old) but this track utilises *two* notes and it stirs up more emotion inside my body than all yer wack Autechre, FSOL,Orbital and Ninja LPs rolled together. kF
