I hope this isn't off topic for the list, but: I'm looking for new triphop and downtempo labels to explore, particularly stuff with a more electronic and dark sound. I've already covered Wall of Sound, Pussyfoot, NTone, NinjaTune, and Shadow. Any other recommendations? thanks! jon

check out some stuff on Skint.... the New REQ lp ':One' is excellent, wired beaty stuff.... Also checkout the Ultimate dilemma label, again stuff by Req, and stuff from Runaways (ex: RPM/MoWax), MisterJon and various others... I think UD have a compilation out at the end of this month... Dan

While some [including myself] might disagree with the 'triphop' classification, most of the tunes on Skam are quite lazy. Especially check out the Boards of Canada EP. Can't remember if you mentioned it or not, but Mo'Wax is the current King of Downtempo. Also might want to check out anything on the French Source label [not the German Source label...]

Definitely check into the Headz 2 compilation on Mo' Wax. (Part A at the very least). Also, if I recall correctly, the new Red Snapper "Loopascoopa" EP on Warp was pretty down-tempo. (Can't remember for sure cause it's currently being borrowed in exchange for use of UI Red/Blue, Joyrex J4/5, et al... fair trade methinks :-) -- guyjr@ns.gt.ed.net | I.D.M.- That stage in sleeping when your feet are a.k.a., Guy Elden, Jr. | moving faster than your eyes.

A label that has some really, really good downtempo stuff is INSTINCT. Try their Future Sound of Jazz series. By the way, since we're on the topic, has anyone heard of "Air"? I think they're french, but they have some really phat lounge muzik. -d-

MoWax (of course,) but also Cloak & Dagger, 2Kool, Strange Brew, Asphodel. There are a bunch more, I just can't think of them off the top of my head. -- —Phil [----------] [---] [-----] [-----] [-----] [----------] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [----------] [----------] [---] [---] [----------] [----------] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [--------] [-----] [-----] [---] [-----] [----------] Home is where the stereo is!
