Hmmm...wonder who that could be? Get those tapes ready trainspotters. Hopefully someday the Universal Indicator series will no longer even be pressed to viynl but instead offered as rebirth files that we can all download for free and trade. Wouldn't that be nice? Ahhhh.... Peace out, Gonzi.

I've seen and used Rebirth (the demo version, ofcoz) and I thought it was a cool program...I immediately became aware of the "one-knob-at-a-time" handicap, which really irked me....then there's the hefty price tag for the full version ($200?!). Although it's incredibly fun, it seems very impractical at this stage to be attempting any serious composition using Rebirth... ---> http://www.citenet.net/noise/it <--- The above is the URL for the Impulse Tracker homepage -- Impulse Tracker being a program (freeware, actually) for your PC that has no limit on the size of the samples you use, and supports many sample formats. In addition to that, if you've got the soundcard and cpu muscle, IT can handle 64 simultaneous tracks of CD-quality (meaning you sampled ya shit at 44.1kHz) audio. Impulse Tracker is the beefed up cousin of Scream Tracker, the program responsible for each and every ".s3m" you've ever seen. If you have ANY desire at all to write electronic music, and you don't consider your compositions quite worthy of $2000 equipment yet, go download Impulse Tracker. .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | nm: nickworthington | ml: nworth1@umbc.edu | .25grandizer1wrecktangle | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1 | "Walk softly and carry a big spliff." | `-------------------------------------------------------------------------'

I agree... considering that you can (after composing a tune) save each 'track' (say the drums, bass, lead, whatever) separately (save a 'master copy' with the entire comp, then save each 'track' with the other tracks deleted...) and THEN use something like Cubic Player to write high quality WAV files for each track, THEN edit each track to your hearts content, THEN mix them with some other piece of free or shareware software (possibly CoolEdit on a pc)... end result is a high quality wav file of your tune, for free. __________________________________________ sfwd@sonic.net wasted time in mass abundance

Yes indeed. Also, if anyone on this list *is* making electronica in the form of tracker modules and would like to contribute to my IDM module page, then get in touch. For those that forgot the address (and not just another shameless plug :) : http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/idm.htm is the one. -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

yeah, that does kinda suck but you can at least record the knob moves so you can layer up more than one move at a time.

$200 is HEFTY?? for 2 303's and an 808 that are indistinguishable from the real thing? with built-in midi sync, no less! considering that most music programs cost twice that much, i think it's a BARGAIN. i'm first in line with my $200 when they start shipping.

of course it's impractical, what do you expect from a demo version... i've already had good results sampling its output and layering it in with other stuff. i can't wait for the real thing.
