G'day, Just checking out the Plus 8 discography, and had a listen to some Plastikman stuff. I've been wanting some more Platikman since I got his remix of System 7's 'Alphawave'. Anyways, does anyone have any particular recommendations, and know of any other labels that carry Plastikman stuff? Most of the Plus 8 stuff is vinyl, and I'm only after CD. Thanks, Geoff

I'd recommend Plastikman's second full-length "Musik". Should be widely available, since it was distributed by NovaMute. Also look out for the first album "Sheet One" and the remix EP of sorts "Recycled Plastik". Top-notch stuff, in my opinion - according to R. Hawtin, there _will_ be a new Plastikman album out this year; he's been adamant about how definite this is. Since all the Concept releases are over, I guess he'll be working of the new one now... hawtin has released a new album on his new label "minus" called concept one, i haven't listened to it in a couple of weeks, but it's pretty good, different than his previous stuff....i wouldn't call it a progression tho...the album definitely has his distinct sound...if you were into his previous stuff i'd recommend it, if not.....go buy it anyway and broaden your horizons :) On Thu, 23 Apr 1998, jimg/skoop wrote:

I'm suprised nobody else has piped up about this! The Concept CD is actually a collection of tracks of a series of 12"s called Concept One. There were twelve records in the series and the twelfth one was in a box to house the whole set. The Concepts are all experimental minimal techno. I might go far as to suggest they are in a similar vein as the Sahko stuff, but obviously Hawtin's music is not going to have the same influences as the Finish minimal. It's love/hate type of stuff, so definately listen before you buy. It isn't ANYTHING like the Plastikman releases! I like it, but my mind isn't what it used to be... -robot

I second Robot's kudos on this release. Here's the review i posted of it back on March 9th in Recoreviews pt 33: . Richie Hawtin: Concept 1 96 cd (M_NUS) This is a compilation of tracks culled from the twelve Concept eps released in 1996 seamlessly mixed by Mr. Hawtin himself. The styles on this range from weird electronica & ambience to dubby minimal techno and even one track of silence. The tracks are very much in the Profan and Studio 1 style . I was lucky enough to get all the Concept 12"s when they were first released but it's fun to hear what an accomplished dj can do with these tracks. 7/10 -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

i find the concept series to be the north american attempt to mirror the sound of profan records...mike ink, etc. (which I like) so if you aren't into that "profan" sound, i wouldn't recommend the concept series. the CD comp. of the concept series 12"s seem to be just enough for me.
