This bizarrely-packaged Orbital release found its way into a local used shop, and I grabbed it...I was hoping someone might know its origin, or at least something about it. I suspect it's some sort of promo item. There's a CD, a videotape, and some plastic cards. Each is in a small silvery translucent plastic bag of its own (mylar?), and the whole shebang comes in a larger bag of the same material. On this bag, it gives the URL of the Orbital site, the name and phone number of what I asssume is Orbital's management co. (it looks like a UK phone number to me...+44 171 etc. etc.). It then has "Orbital TruPak:12" in about 96 point letters and the Orbital and Internal logos. _TruPak:12_ CD contains: Chime (3:13) Choice (8:09) Belfast (5:13) Sunday (7:12) Impact (USA) (11:21) Remind (7:58) Kein Trink Wasser (9:25) Are We Here? (15:33) Times Fly (Slow) (7:59) There's also a set of five license-plate-ish size translucent plastic cards: Orbital/Tracklist Orbital/History Orbital/Technology Orbital/Live Orbital/Discography And then there's the video, which I have yet to see. (no TV, no VCR...ug.) The video does not give a track listing, but says merely "Orbital/Live" and has a NTSC sticker on it. I'm not a proud owner of the green album, so I'm not sure it the first three tracks are labelled correctly, but those are the times given by my player...perhaps that is enough to figure out what they are. And the discography card mentions nothing after _Times Fly_, so I strongly suspect (gee, how brilliant of me) that this was made before _The Box_ was released. Thanks in advance. You suspect right my friend. A limited number of these packages were mailed out to promote Orbital's newest release, "In Sides" back last summer. Very few were made..... onnow: incursions in electronics (100 minutes) Lame Thread Prevention in Effect: Aaron Michelson --------------------------------------------------------------------- aw-teck'r (autechre) "Everything you Know is Wrong" For reviews, interviews, art & trash http://www.on-it.net/~aaron/ aaron@defiant.on-it.net

I've heard that these things were pretty expensive to produce so that probably accounts for their limited number. As far as the content goes, the mylar packaging and the plastic punch cards are pretty cool, but all the songs on the CD sampler are widely available elsewhere, and the live video is just a roughly 10 minute version of Halcyon (?) spliced together from 2 different shows (which incidently is on another Orbital promo video that includes The Box.) The punch cards make excellent space age coasters, by the way. Now if I could only find a use for the mylar... -Christina
