I've been listening to TEEX3 a lot recently, and one of the stand out tracks is "Kincajou", by Banco de Gaia (that's disc one, track three). But I've never heard of them before; could someone tell me more about them and how typical "Kincajou" is compared to the rest of their work? Adam P.S. Happy Birthday, RDJ. (I think...)

Yeah Kincajou is pretty typical. Most of Banco De Gaia's stuff is in this vein, kind of trancey ethnicy slightly breakbeaty, lots of flutes, tibetans etc etc. First album is called Maya, the second is Last Train to Lhasa, and just recently Live at Glastonbury came out. I haven't heard the album, but I was at the show and it was incredible, but that was probably mostly down to the crowd and the setting... Anyways I recommend Maya above the others, but Kincajou is on Last Train to Lhasa, so you might want to try that first... Enjoy! Andrew C.

I must say I agree with these people. It's supposed to be an album about Tibet and then he does the usual thing: to sample NASA rocket launches. Why are there so many people still doing this? The KLF and the Orb did it years ago, try to find something new to sample instead. There is a whole world out there that wants to be sampled. So who here is into Banco de Gaia??? If so, what tunes?? Lai Lah is one of my favorite songs on the planet (from Maya) -- but I can only listen to it at dusk in the summer (preferably near a large body of water, like an ocean.) Even my non IDM - listening friends like it. So what do you folks think? -----------------------Izzo.....

He seems to me to be a bit hit or miss. Some of his songs, like "Kincajou" and its remixes, are awesome. Some though, are underinspiring, to say the least. The Last Train to Lhasa CD isvery good, but I found Maya to be pretty dull. Just my opinion. I haven't heard Live at Glastonbury yet, any comments on it?

I love Banco, but for some reason it seems to be a once-in-a-while kind of listening thing.. I'm not really too familiar with all of the songs, but most are great! I do like the 'live @ glastonbury' album that he put out, very high energy & some great mixes of his songs. Any ideas when he might have some new material? --brett On Wed, 5 March 1997, at 22:49:02, EvilIzzo@aol.com wrote:

generally gets lumped in with "world" and trancey tinged ethno tribal. Last Train in from a while ago. Some of their stuff's not bad, but nothing that grabs me by the ankle and shakes me around :-) (I like being grabbed by the ankle and shaken around, in case you were wondering.) I *

It is excellent. I agree. Though I like most only 2nd CD of the set. I stated about it a while ago but all I heard was negative approach to banca. I think this CD is one of the best in ambient. And...no I don't think it is idm if to be precise. Alien np. - Pan Thy Monium
