Just thought i would put in a mention on Roupe, I only have one album - Strom. Does anyone know anymore about this. I see from the inlay that Germ helped with the bass and stuff. The reason I bring it up is it sounds to me like top notch idm, but it isnt on Rephlex :) You get the same kind of tension between harsh abrasive and crunchy beats that evolve and occaisionally become beautiful pulsating soundscapes in the Autechre - Amber vein, but slightly cruder i suppose. Also worthy of a mention is Monomorphs - Alternative Fluid (cheers Ashok!) which i have only heard once but think will be a real fave. I think this is Italian idm. Is Anibaldi Italian?? Not the same but bloody good. Two new, for you! cheers R

Just as you speak , a new album is due to be released on the "Resourse" label outta York , the album is entitled "Entelechy" , don't have a date on it yet , but I have a 4 track promo sampler , Very Very good , this is the sort of thing that most people on this list would appreciate , but unless we discuss it , would get passed over! - I posted a review of this earlier last week - reminds me very much of classic Black Dog - the same playfulness with rhythm and subtle melodies , the ep includes a remix from 'Germ" , not sure if this is on the LP. stuart@4th world records uk http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld

i have an old roupe album called "strom" that was released on input neuron musique, INMLP/CD002(i believe INM was a sub-label of GPR or something). i havent heard the entelechy release, but i remember listening to this record after hearing people compare roupe to autechre and being pretty dissappointed in the lack of rythymic complexity and weirdness. some of the tracks had cool melodies and things, but i wouldnt really recommend tracking this down. np: 0161 - this v/vm stuff is very key! some of it, like the jackfear and renegades tracks, is hilarious. -t

hmm... just read michael fakesch's dis-owning of this particular mask release... i really like it personally... my vote for the hell interface has to be the first track on side b...beginning with children laughing...listen to the sounds...textbook BOC... in addition to the killer cover/remix of 'midas touch' there's the hilarious and yet mesmerising dissection of duran duran's 'save a prayer' plus some pretty cool robotic vocoder action towards the end. and some silly backwards shit. :) also - plaid's LP: while one of the tracks towards the beginning sounds *way* too much like something from, say, windham hill circa '89, the rest of the album is very much to my liking. being a plaid fan and all...as for autechre, 1)its an ep for christ's sake, regardless of how long it is and 2) its pretty damn good, imo. if you don't feel it, you don't feel it. what can you do? recently found a wayward copy of roupe's 'entelechy' lp....i'd never heard it before and was fantastically surprised...what, beside their 12 on dot, is out there? mikebee ::mikebee@sirius.com ::21st Century Soul

MUCH agreed. I'm always surprised when this doesn't pop up on the lists of excellent dnb-ish type material worth tracking down and owning. I have heard of other Roupe material but I can't recall it offhand. Anyone? jeff

There was a Roupe album called Strom on the Input Neuron Musique label back in 94-95 but it was more in the abstract techno vein, ala Nev or early Germ releases. I had this album at one time but sold it some years ago. I would imagine it's quite hard to find with the problems that GPR had in the past with distribution. FYI: Input Neuron Musique was the techno sublabel of GPR that also featured solid lps by Russ Gabriel and Morganistic (aka Luke Slater). Other Roupe appearances: . Endlessnessism comp 2xcd (Dot) . Invasion of the Dot Knights! comp cd (P Vine-Japan) . Roupe: Transport Solutions 12" (Dot) -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
