So Mr. RDJ,
What exactly are your priorities then...?
To throwaway Rephlex titles into the hands of "johnny come lately" major
label sales reps who will barter their Squarepusher Cds with their local
mechanics to have their cars fixed!?
There are ways around this oversaturation you know...
Try dealing directly with a few N.A. independent distributors for once! That
will bring prices down, allow for promotion, increase sales, and improve the
general awareness of a label!
Better yet, open your own N.A. office and sort out a good dist. deal yourself
- if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!
A N.A. major label deal will kill a label! They'll release everything late
(competing with import copies flooding the market), they like to change
artwork/packaging (constantly creating confusion), they do nothing with
vinyl, have uneducated sales/promo departments, and in a year from now when
this whole overhyped techno/drum'n'bass/hip hop thing is over, they'll drop
you like a lead brick! It's always about the next big thing to these guys!
But hey, if you're simply looking for a nice big advance and a few minutes of
fame, this is for you!
Whatever... I'm usually not this precious about things and hey it is only
music...
discreetly,
l.b.
