chrome is a recently launched subsidiary of force inc./mille plateaux. it's up to its seventh release, and its catalog already includes twelves from: alec empire (as wipeout), khan/4E (as kerosene), si begg (as himself), techno animal (ditto), and another group i can't remember, as well as the two most recent singles by panacea (aka dark chrome). nowhere on either of these releases do the words "dark chrome" appear in that order, and i don't really know from whence the misnomer came, but they are both exquisitely hard, over-the-top, down'n'dirty nu black-style superdark techstep. as i said above, i think "stormbringer" is the better of the two (in fact, for that track alone, which to my ears sounds like jungle's first megamix, with snippets of ed rush, fierce/nico, autechre, funki porcini, zulutronic, and godknowswhatelse all thrown in). panacea has also been in demand on the remix tip, with recent ones including love inc. (!).

this is ringin' bells, but i can't remember which...was gerd on _avant-gardism_? is this a blue planet artist? does (s)he/they have a twelve comin' out on that new domestic exp. electronic label whose name escapes me (man, i'm slippin'...)? sc p.s. if you're into the dark shit, keep an eye peeled for penny black #08. i can't tell you the artist or title since all i have is a promo, but this is scary, warped, depressing shit. almost _too_ dark...

whoah - stop. kerosene = mr. can oral. not khan/4e/gizz tv/el turo loco/whatever. they've worked together, but kerosene - who has quite a stack of 12" releases (no LP?) to his name - is another person entirely.

Gerd is one half of Sensurreal. He has recorded for Brave New World, Beam Me Up!. He is now recording for (check this) Universal Language, Op-Art and Pork. His releases sound kinda like Sensurreal, only with a bit more emphasis on rythm. IMHO, Everything he has done is great. His rythm programming (with lotsa use of stereo placement) is delightfull. More Gerd history: Before Sensurreal Gerd was a third of Sunshower (recorded for Prime, arguably they released the only good records Prime put out). They released tracks under the name It's Thinking (one brilliant ep on Malego and a quite nice one on Prime). Yet another monniker was Marvo Genetic whose classic New World Basics was released on the Deviate rec. Trivia moment: one of the members of Sunshower is the guy who got Speedy J his deal with Plus 8....
