i dunno, i still think that "ccec" is one of the coolest songs ever. but i do agree with the fact that autechre must grow on you for a while in order to be good. i remember the first autechre release i bought was "tri repetae ++" at some store. it was a total guess purchase as well. i remember the nostalgic emotions some of the synthy songs would throw me into. under the influence, some of those songs, which i thought were beautiful, turned out to be terrifying. but that's aside from the point. i only started enjoying lp5 recently and i think it'll take a while for chiastic slide to kick in like that too. i remember amber had that same string attached too. blah, i'm done. shaun

Wow, what all of you are saying about these Autechre releases is completely opposite of how I felt about them. The first album I bought by them was "Envane." And I didn't like it at first because it was too rythmic, too repetative. Then I let it sit for a while, and almost sold it, but then took a listen at it a while later, and I liked it a lot more. So then I bought LP5. I thought the sounds were cool, but that the music was still sometimes a little too predictable, but still I really liked it a LOT (it didn't leave my turntable for a month straight). Then I bought EP7, and it was right on the mark. It confused me in a way I wanted to be confused so badly. I loved it. It is all there, the sounds, the composition, the surprises, the way I don't know right away when the pattern is going to start over and repeat, the way I *can't* always bob my head to it, yet somehow it is still working on me in my brain, still reaching me on a different subconscious level. I think the type of people who like the more recent Ae are people who value confusion and curiosity in their music... the type of people who want to sit down and *have* to think about what is going to happen next, not have it all spelled out for them. I think this explains waiting to get full enjoyment more than "it has to grow on you..." For me, the enjoyment comes from the whole process of starting out confused, and slowly leting the music work its way into my brain. I love the whole process of it, from begining confusion to eventual understanding (at least somewhat). But that's why I buy it, because I know that is what I'm getting, and that is what I like. I really like music that doesn't get stuck in my head after I'm done listening to it, music I can't recreate in my head. This is a very powerfull thing, I think -- music that can only really exist in its native format. Yea, yea, I know, I'm really white, and I have no soul, etc... -Andy! --- Visions Of Bubba <sbabakha@videon.wave.ca> wrote:
