Thanks to all of you on IDM and the ambient list for the Aphex Twin and Ligeti information. Interesting note: Bill & Rhys have sampled Ligeti once again on the new Noise Unit CD, "Drill." They use the opening of Ligeti's "Lux Aeterna" throughout "Dominator" (track 2). Ligeti samples can also be found on "Wavelength" from Delerium's "Spheres" CD. Dennis O'Hare noise@webtv.net

Obscure question : does anyone know if Ligeti's Piano Concerto was released ever ? For those that don't know, check this man's work. Lux Aeterna (stolen for the 2001 sound track by Kubrick) is only a hint of what he has done. String Quartets, operas, chamber music. All of it defines the creepy tonal splendour that electronic music loves so much :) 10-4 over and out good buddy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Sattinger reprogramming our reality through disco new records coming on : Synewave(jan), Subvoice(feb), Sativae(?) Yes. I'm sure there are at least two, one on DG and one on Sony, both should be in print.

Do not underestimate the accuracy of these words! Ligeti's all that and a wry, bizarre sense of humor too. It isn't all tone-cluster-music/ micropolyphony like Lux Aeterna and Atmospheres--in later works, the textures are sparser, rhythms are edgier, and detail isn't always subsumed into a large shape (as in L.A.) but is allowed to speak clearly, and there's so much of it it's overwhelming. Microtunings in recent years (Horn trio), and there's a phenomenally, well, "creepy" spot in the Piano Cto with these ocarinas blowing these fuzzy, out-of-tune, otherworldly chords. Shivers.
