I've been recently buying stuff on the American label Shadow Records. I think their self imposed genre of abstract hip hop is quite fitting. My local record stores don't really carry this label which leaves me doing a lot of mail order. I'd like to buy more but I don't want to do it blindly. Can anybody point me in the direction of some of their better releases? Also, are there any other labels that put out music like that? Basically groovy hip hop beats with heavy samples and scratches and with little or no rapping. I have "If ya can't stand da beatz, git outta da kitchen" on Shadow; it's a double CD which features almost all ninja tune artists (funki porcini, 9 lazy 9, up bustle & out, dj food, herbalizer, coldcut) It features a few cool tracks (I especially like "it's a long road" by f.p.), but I seem to like the "original" ninja tune compilations better. If you're looking for similar stuff, you will definitely enjoy most of headz 2 b. A. -- Alessandro Bianchini bianchini@ibm.net +39 347 3738659 bianchin@librs6k.vatlib.it
