Hi! Amusing to join a list and find that much of the discussion is about
the nature of the list, rather than content as such :)
However, it's all very interesting and often useful. I'm really glad I
have my Big Day Out ticket as it looks like it's the only chance to see
Aphex Twin, according to one post...
Speaking of Aphex, one of the most played tracks for me at the moment is
"Milkman" off the Girl/Boy EP. Now is that jungle or drum'n'bass (it
tends to get classified in the ambient kinda section because of Aphex's
earlier work but that's just totally inappropriate).
I personally prefer to use the term drum'n'bass, because so much of the
stuff that calls itself jungle is commercial crap, Alex Reece or
L.T.J.Bukem or whatever, uninspired unchallenging music. The good
drum'n'bass stuff has constantly changing patterns or at least longer
loops, and interesting sounds on top. I guess the other thing is the
plug album "drum'n'bass for papa"- If that's drum'n'bass I'll take it
over jungle anyday!
By the way, does anyone have the Blue Angel compilation "Avantgardism"-
apparently has Aphex, plug (or Wagon Christ), Squarepusher, etc, etc.
Peter.
on now: mu-ziq, "IN PINE EFFECT". Old Fun #1 & Funky Pipecleaner esp.
