Hey guys! What's this list coming to? Lately I've recieved about 70-80 mails /day and _VERY_ few of these have actually contained any information worthwile. I mean, this orbital thing, It's fuckin hilarious... The worst thing tho is that this list ain't no IDM discussion list nomore. People are discussing U2, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Primal Scream, David Bowie, Prince n samba. People are selling stupid drummachines, and discuss what kind of headphones one should use. People are advertising for their computer-demo homepage. People are asking for good shops in this-or-that area. All this is to be justified with putting a "on: aphex twin; blue calx" beneath the signature. I won't let you think that I'm some kinda snowed under narrowminded twat sitting with my computer complaining about all n everything. Actually i kinda like Sinatra n U2, and i'm pretty interested in knowing about different turntables. If i could, I'll prolly try to sell you a sequencer or two as well. But this is not what this list is about. Or am I wrong? I thank those who still post reviews, for-sale lists (i've gotten myself some really great music this way, at a cheap rate), information about new releases, all these kinda things. I admire ppl like Fresh, James Skilton and Jason McCollum for actually diong something that matters. I think this list would work very well as some kind of forum between us and the people involved in the releases that we praise on this list but... Ken Downing left, Grant from Rephlex spoke about leaving, and I haven't seen a post from Warp-Greg for a long time... Lemme say this: I'm not surprised... Lately there's also been posts from people who didn't find this list useful, and If I recently subscribed I would've left faster than I came... Now as it happens to be, I've been on this list for some while and I know that every now and then intelligent and/or interesing posts pop up, I've also made some great frinds thanks to this list, but If I didn't have my free internet offer I would do this to myself. I wouldn't fucking plow through 80 senseless posts a day. I believe the situation has to be thought over... Any suggestions of what to do? Or is it only me feeling this way... Opinions anyone. yeah, and fear my spelling. Cheers, Franz Enmark typ Levnadsklapare. IMHO(hey, i learned a new computer abbreviation!) personally, i would have left long ago if it was just a bunch of music geeks sitting around talking about how much they want to suck Greg from Warp's dick....sure i appreciate the info that get's passed around about new releases, ect.; but a little healthy discussion (or unhealthy disc.)....the best thing in the world was when Alex R. posted his famous anti-Orbital message. no, i didn't agree with him(in fact, i thought he was full of shit....er, no offense alex), but at least it got people talking; defending the music they liked...blah, blah, blah...... all better than simplely saying "I (heart) Aphex"...... anywho, that's my .02 worth........i say f#ck the guys from the labels if they think this list isn't "relevant" enough for them to read....i guess they just want us to say how much we luv them, and how happy we are to spend money on their products............. and quite frankly, it's pretty obvios what posts will be directly about idm, or if it's about something else.....that delete button works pretty good in eliminating any offending messages

I agree that a that there are a lot of posts that aren't IDM related. Some of them are a boring and don't really relate to what we talk about, and then there are some IDM messages that aren't really worth posting (IMHO). I am so sick of seeing these Orbital messages, I like the band and all. But I am not really interested in reading about them everyday (it gets old fast). And who really cares if Bowie likes Photek. Does that really mean anything? He was also a big Kraftwerk fan in the day, but who cares. I guess I am definitely not a big fan of long threads. Keep it short or respond in private if you don't have much to say.

I agree with your points.

Ken Downie's departure seemed a little immature. He didn't like negative responses to his album or didn't like comments like Plaid was better. That is all subjective, and there are many people on this list that do like his new release. He shouldn't have taken the criticism personally. You can't please everyone. And of course there will be people that prefer Black Dog as a trio or prefer Plaid. Regarding Grant and g3, that is too bad if they leave the list. There comments were usually interesting, but maybe they are getting bored. I hope both keep us updated on the list, even if they don't contribute in discussions. B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . i have been on this list since it was created and at the moment have no intention of leaving. the s/n ratio of the list has deteriorated, it has a stupid name and there are far fewer reviews than there used to be - but it is still valid for news and the occasisonal giggle. richard's mike p episode was a highlight i think especially as no one seemed to notice. the frequency of my postings to the list however is almost direct proportional to workload and proximity to bandwidth. you should not forget that my position at warp makes commenting on certain artists and topics difficult unfortunately. the idm poll was disappointingly pop btw, insides is ok but was no where near album of the year, skam getting label of the year though was cool, not bad going with only 4 singles that year, which, bar a few highlights, was the worst for electronic music I can remember. g.
