I recently heard a couple of their choons on a free tape (BLECH/DJ Food/Warp records) I got with Wax magazine (got it for the tape) , some of it was bleepy rubbish (some people will buy anything just coz it's obscure) but some of it I liked a lot, nice and melodic, chill out stuff, one I remember was called "spangle" (by seefeel) which was great, and another called "tied" which I can't recall (I'm looking on the trax listing 4 the tape) Can I have some info on Link as well please, I heard a couple of their's on the same tape "amazon amenity chameleon remix" which was brilliant, and another..."antacid jedi knights remix" which was also pretty good. also can anyone point me in the direction of an Internal records discography? take it easy _________________ ______ ___________ ___ | / \| \| \ | | | |__ __| | | | |_| | | | | | | |\_ _/ | | | | | | | | |___| \______/|______/|______/ |___|

Yes, I'd agree with you...if I had voted it probably would have been for Rephlex. Maybe the problem was that there were a few not so hot releases mixed in there that turned some people off. Every Skam release was very good to great. No duds.

Definately Orbital over Squarepusher. A no-brainer for me. That US double CD version of In Sides is simply wonderful. Just my belated votes... Tony

yeah, that's right, listen to Orbital again and repeat what you just said without blushing, Orbital are the masters beyond all doubt. Suprised to see no Spooky on the poll despite their excellent 1996 releases. I'm also gonna unsub from the list pretty soon, I only joined it a week or two ago and it's not proving useful to me. take it easy _________________ ______ ___________ ___ | / \| \| \ | | | |__ __| | | | |_| | | | | | | |\_ _/ | | | | | | | | |___| \______/|______/|______/ |___|

I personally feel that In Sides is the most varied, and textured peice of IDM/ambient/hardcore when it wants to be album I have yet heard. Maybe this is due to my mainstream ignorance, and my lack of IDM savy, but I love Orbital, and while past works such as Snivilization and "Orbital" may not be wonderful, they try different things, and maintain a creative consistency. Orbital is wonderful. At 06:45 PM 1/5/97 -0800, Chris.Hilker wrote:

I have only been with the list for a few months, but I have found it quite reliable as a source for new noise. (My orders from EarRational have grown exponentially since discovering previous years' polls.) > Results: Album of the Year > Winner: In Sides - Orbital (Internal) > Results: Compilation of the Year > Winner: Blech (Warp) > Results: Label of the Year > Winner: Skam First of all, I have no problem with these or any other category's results. My two cents merely are the fact that, for the purposes of this poll, there can never be ideal exposure for all entries. Taking another award as an example, I believe that voters for the Oscars must see every movie they can potentially vote for (or against.) (Please resist the urge to attack the result of this specific instance; merely join me in appreciation of the process.) Some of us in poor geographic locations simply do not have access to every CD discussed on this list and can therefore not educate ourselves first hand as well as we might hope. (I believe this to be especially true for the Compilation and Label O-the-Year.) Orbital, I believe, may have won a tight race for the fact that virtually every member of this discussion group owns InSides. (More so than Squarepusher, however narrow the margin.) I'll label that neither as good or bad, merely as likely fact and leave it at that. In any case, I looked forward to this poll not simply to see who wins our virtual award but to check what exceptional disks I missed out on during the year. Now is the time when I am again silent, jtf FYI - I have both InSides and FeedMe... but abstained from voting because I had not yet heard three of the six entries for Album.

Good point, but I think the aforementioned Skam releases are the equal of any Rephlex release this year, even Feed Me and Global Goon! (which is marvellous, congrats to whoever came up with that one!)
