Just for the sake of being anti-mainstream, I'm giving you all my top 5
albums of 1995 instead of 1996...
1. Aphex Twin: "Ventolin"
"Hell, that's no album!", I hear you say. Well, define it as you
want, with twelve different tracks on it it's an album for me.
One of RDJ's best releases, only beaten by the "HAB" EP's and
"AB3".
2. Aphex Twin: "I Care Because You Do"
Yes, RDJ does it again! My favourites on this album are "Come On
You Slags" and "Alberto Balsam".
3. Tupilaq: "Lightseeds"
This Swedish guy Krister Linder, nowadays more known as Yeti, is
AFAIK Sweden's only big IDM artist (neglecting Plod, who have yet
to break through!). He manages to capture very arctic feelings in
his music, recorded in "Alaskanlab".
4. Carl Craig: "Landcruising"
Some kind of a "retro" album by this Detroit legend. It took me
some time to get into it, but when I finally did, it hit me.
5. T-Power: "The Self-evident Truth of an Intuitive Mind"
I find it hard to get into drum & bass (apart from Squarepusher)
but this album really did it for me.
Best compilation: "The Ambient Cookbook" (Fax) -- If you find it, buy it.
Greetings,
Johan. ,,,
