Hey, it's not just Goldie who's in Spraycan Art, on the opposite page (64) there's another familiar face: 3D from Massive Attack. "3D, one of the first writers in England, started out in Bristol. Whereas in London the early writers did commissioned work, in Bristol they worked at night, in classic graffiti fashion, on the alert for hostile neighborhood residents and the police." Yeah! Maarten (and check the photo credits on page four for the pics on page 68... :)

Not that I know of. It's surely the same edition.

Well, his first album is quite eclectic. There's darkside, more or less hardcore d'n'b, jungle-soul, drum'n'jazz. A little of everything. In my opinion, Timeless (the track) is the best song on the record, very well constructed. Also, don't forget there's a remixes maxi on FFRR with over 60 minutes of Inner city life remixes by Peshay, 4 Hero, Rabbit in the moon, etc. Get it if u like the song because it's awesome!! Jose C. Today I saw he's "Timeless" CD in two different packages, but with the same tracks (???) Well, I'm not doubting u, but the big box with the black cover is a double-cd album with many more tracks than the single-cd release with a white cover. U only have to look on the back and read the titles... Also, the price is a bit different :-) Greetings from Spain! Jose C. I don't even want to start on issues of race, but I think it's a legitimate question, if not quite delicately phrased. I don't give much thought to race, but it remains true that one's life experience is shaped in some way by skin color and ethnicity -- though surely moreso by socioeconomic background... which unfortunately still have some cause and effect relationship. How advanced we are as a human race...sigh. --Mark On 7 Apr 1997, Dave Walker wrote:

hi all, they're just playing that 40-minute track "mother" of goldie's new album on the radio here and it is undoubtedly the worst piece of crap I have ever heard. does anybody know what the hell this guy was thinking? a few months back he hyped himself as "the innovator of d&b" in some interview. if that's his definition of the future of d&b, I have no doubts we'll hear some la bouche remixes from him in the near future. cheers, --tom

I heard he put everthing but the kitchen sink in this album. From what I heard he has a 40-piece orchestra playing on the album. I heard you also have to wait at least 15-minutes before it gets interesting. The reviews on this side of the Atlantic have been mixed. -- Niraj Agarwalla -- niraj@shore.net -- http://www.shore.net/~niraj

i read some interview in spin with him, and someone was going off on how it consisted of like "139 tracks of pro-tools, 32 tracks on a jp-something or another, 9,000 audio files, 32 tracks on something else AND a 40 piece orchestra overtop." bullshit. anyway. goldie needs to die. - wells (np. new order 'brotherhood') : wells : : s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu :

Hi, well I have to agree on that. Goldie's latest comes close to utter shite. I even doubt his mother is happy with a track like that, if you listen to it it sounds like his mother must've given him a hell of an upbringing. Even the single "Temper Temper" sounds like a cheap copy of Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy". The clip is nice but the track...well...it's not really a track is it!? I never had a high estime of Goldie but now he's really in my shit-dept. Don't spend your money on his album. Go for the new Ganja Cru instead. PS: I have the first 12" of DJ Crystl (the one from the UK), from back in 1992. does anyone know what it's worth nowadays? It was released by a small -now non-existent - label, that had a store on London's King's Road. Not that I'm selling it, just curious. Tom Tonger wrote:

just picked up Saturnz Return this morning - US releases being on Tuesdays rather than Mondays - i haven't figured out a reasonable explanation for this yet ... but I love it. Much better than Timless which I find hard to listen to, apart from a couple of tracks because it is so damn unfunky. This one has much more of a soul vibe - the one track which really sucks though is Temper Temper . Not everything else is great (Demonz is pretty much just filler..) - but the best Jungle album I've heard in a while, hardly a formula in site
