It looks as though you lot over in the States get a better deal than
us in Europe when it comes to MTV & IDM, which is a bit odd when you
consider how much decent IDM comes from the UK and surrounding
countries.
MTV Europe have a few so-called specialist programs, such as 'Chill
Out' and 'Party Zone', but for the most part they just play endless
club shite. They may occasionally wheel out the odd classic, such as
FSOL's 'Humanoid', 808 State's 'Pacific' or Aphex Twin's 'On', but
for the most part it's all a bit tiresome.
Of course, there are still a few surprises. Once in a blue moon,
they'll show something like FSOL's 'Teachings from the Electronic
Brain' or Spooky's 'Found Sound Video Project', but such treats are
very few and far between.
I'm seriously tempted to write up a proposal for decent IDM and send
it in to MTV Europe, including sample playlists, presentation methods
and such. Whether or not they'll read it is another matter. Still,
something needs to be done.
