I caught Amp last night... I was pretty disappointed there wasn't any new Aphex, Autechre, or Orbital. What I did like about it was Fluke. I've never heard of them before. Does the rest of their album (forget the name) sound like that one song (forget the name)? Thanks, Adam

Fluke is quite cool. Haven't heard anything new from the Flukester in a while. Remember some good house-oriented material from a few years back, and then that Fluke was doing production work on other artists' records. The only recording I own of FLuke is the cut "Philly" (Yo! Oh, sorry, digressing and regressing momentarily) on the first Creation dance compilation. By the way, adulations for that comp - each and every idm lover should at least hear this piece of plastic. Love Corporation (that fab "Palatial" remix by Danny Rampling), Hypnotone, Primal Scream in fine remix form, etc. etc. Groovy stuff. Oh, right, did forget. The Fluke cut ("Atom Bomb") is also on the Wipeout XL soundtrack, which I did recently acquire, and which was recently discussed in this very Ambient Cabinet of Dr. Paterson. Seemed to me (might have been the effect of reading Berkeley and resulting elliptic solipsistic paranoia) that the mix was different in the video. Zeno of Elea

Dunno about the album, but I picked up both CD singles for Atom Bomb last night. So far, it seems pretty fun. Atomix 1 sounds like the video version. Atomix 5 is an analog-synth stormer! The main sweeping sound through the track sounds like it was taken straight from a Korg DW-8000 with the portamento turned on. Nice melody. Atomix 6 sounds like the version on the PSX game WipeoutXL. Haven't listened to the other disc yet, but it's got three more mixes, plus an edit. -- guyjr@ns.gt.ed.net | I.D.M.- That stage in sleeping when your feet are a.k.a., Guy Elden, Jr. | moving faster than your eyes.
