greetings, I'm thinking of treking 2hrs to see Orbital in Boston and having some trouble convinicing a friend. What are their shows like? I only own thier older stuff, I've only heard more recent stuff a few times, I assume that whatever they play will be altered in some way anyway. But, what should I be expecting on the current tour? I assume that people in the UK have seen them already yes? Was it worth it? I'd appreciate any insight/reviews etc. Thanks for your time.. take care :) andy

Let's just say I'm been to a few IDM-related show, and my favorite two lives performances were Orbital in Fall of 1994, and Orbital over the summer. Their performance is incredible, and more and more the brothers are using little subtle theatrics to make the show all the more enjoyable. They lug all their studio gear, so they have everything with them to improvise and noodle with. There's always a good vibe, and you're guaranteed to walk out with a smile. I saw Orbital perform in NYC back in June. I thought it was an amazing show. They performed for around 2 hours. The middle of the set got a little bit harder then I liked, but the beggining and end were fantastic. Their encore was "Out there somewhere" which was delightful. And They wear these large visors, with twin lights on the outside and bounce up and down while they twiddle knobs. They covered material off of all their albumns, and played their more beat-oriented shtuff. brian ----------------------------------------- Monchichi Monchichi, O so soft and cuddly

Were we at the same show? I saw them at Irving Plaza in June (or was it July?) and they *started off* with Out There Somewhere. Their encore consisted of Chime and Impact, I believe. I've got the set list around here somewhere. They didn't play anything off of Snivilisation at that show, though. Perhaps you are speaking of a different show-- didn't they play at the CMJ Music Festival in September in New York? On Wed, 6 Nov 1996 17:51:30 -0400 tang@ilx.com wrote:

I was at this show and I'm positive they played the first track from Snivilisation (forgot the name). But overall, they played much more older stuff than new. The songs aren't straight from the album, they all have some changes here and there. The Bon Jovi/Belinda Carlile (sp) additions to halcyon were a real shocker, but sounded very cool. DEFINITELY worth attending. Kevin

Let's not forget their astonishing visuals!! Not a single mushroom or aeon flux loop in the house. Crazy Mayan faces, ancient woodcuts, and smoldering cinders flashing back and forth... good good stuff... Great show. Geared around a listening environment as opposed to a straight dance set. JB)ondy
