while i'll take care to distance myself from any controversies regarding thad's pricing practices, i would like to cast my vote in favor of limiting posting of these pages-long for-sale lists. as a digest subscriber, i find they can become very irritating very quickly. a pointer to a website or a note to contact the seller directly should be more than enough. this ain't rec.music.marketplace, folks... sc

Personally, I like to see the sales lists, because I like the opportunity to spot a good deal. The problem occurs when people set up shop on the mailing lists. Most notably, I've seen this happen in three ways: 1. Repeated postings by one person of basically the same items. 2. Auctions intended to drive up the price. 3. Authentic business entities repeatedly posting their catalog. In all three cases, the focus viers away from the music and toward cash flow. Not that this a bad thing, but certainly not what the IDM and Ambient lists were intended. I'm not sure there's a way to discourage these sort of practices but perhaps the discussion before us will help.
