well, fuck all if martin damm hasn't done it again. call it "kaori" pt. 2
or yet another visionary fusion of the old and the new, "drop me" is a
staggeringly excellent tour of biochip electro in its various guises. from
the anodyne-esque mid-tempo blip-hop of "my bitch is your bitch and now
you're dead" (c.f. "musik ohne eire" and "moldiver") to the acid-laden
crunch of "nothing else," this four-tracker is top-to-bottom breaks--all
funk/no junk--and working more styles than the donna karan fall line. like
much of damm's other breakbeat work, "drop me" is all about stretching
expectations to the limit while retaining enough root to make it all the
more meaningful, drawing elements of old-school efunk, acid, distorto
electro, and instrumental hip-hop together in the most mind-tweaking,
ear-bending of configurations. and while there's not a bad track in the
bunch, the five star rating goes to the appropriately titled "steal it and
deal it," in which our intrepid bass junkie follows up his previous
ransacking of the beat club classic "security" with another round of ass
whuppin' breakdowns, proving just how far inspiration can go when in the
right hands (and ultimately begging the question...when's the panic trax
twelve?!). SC

holmes ep of the same name)? some really killer, intricate work being done
here...
