According to the Fat Cat website, all three Grain releases are by a producer named Arthur Smith. For more info and sound samples of all three Grain records check: http://www.fat-cat.co.uk/artists/grain.html -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I bought the first Grain release shortly after it came out, i think it was in '96. But I remember the description of it as being "hard driving millsian techno from this first time producer & fatcat employee. That would seem to fit the description of Arthur Smith but who knows... I dont know how well known this is but the early pressings on the first Grain 12" came with a bonus 1-sided 10" that contained a bizarre sound-collage type track that incorporated everything from jazz to wierd samples & field recordings to triphop. I havent listen to it in ages but I remember being quite puzzled when hearing it. It was such a contract to the tracks on the 12" which are all hard driving techno numbers. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Could anybody please comment on this new release by DK? Is it in the same vein as his Alien 8 releases? Should I buy it if I am fan of his "Synaesthesia" and "Beneath the Valley of Modulars" albums? It's good. But then I like pretty much everything the guy has done, so... :)

It's definately more on the beat-oriented side of things than "Room Tone" and "Cricklewood". I think people who enjoy the albums you listed would also dig this one. yeah - the 10" is quite funny - the prank phone-calls have been featured in all the grains but not with the strange musical accompaniement that the first one has. i seem to remember someone mentioning that it could be sasha from hardwax that was behind the first one - but i don't think so - grain played here in dublin with alex knight before xmas which would suggest that it's someone from the fat cat stable - there's some great chain reaction/monolake/various artists style tracks on the grains as well as the more clubbier purpose maker style tracks - definite berlin influence cheers simon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Pete Erlich (aka gretta) and Jimmy Johnson have an ambient/triphop project named 'grain'. http://home.pacbell.net/grain/ I'm not sure where all they have had releases but I've got one on 'domestic' and an LP on another label. The strange thing about this project is that the two members live in different cities and colaborate via the net. Pete lives here in LA and Jimmy keeps moving around (SF,LA,UK). I don't think they've done anything in the last year or two but I might be wrong. They've also put out stuff on the 'bottomheavy' label as 'stepdisk'. Not the same 'grain' as on fat cat but good none the less. bdork. --------------------------- "Lance @ Inaudible" wrote:
